But you don't need to beg for what's available for free.

Nah man, since i have a job, I make it a point not to pirate anything other than AWESOME 11/10 AAA popamoles with ENHANCING DLC. if I enjoy an indie (or semi-indie or abandonware) game, where my hard earned cash, actually goes to the dev instead of corporate fatcats, Ill buy it. If i can't afford it right now, I'll simply wait.

For some of us who are in thirdworlida, a 1mbps net connection is a luxury. And since steam and GOG all sell in US$ here, even if we are able to afford to not starve and make the rent (barely), even buying more than a few "abondaonware" per month is a hard exercise. And the Torment/DOS kickstarters drained me. When you can have a full dinner with rice, porridge, a couple of vegetables and fish for 2$ in a small restaurant here, you decide whether you can afford to buy darklands and maybe skip fish for a week... or whore your self respect for a free copy? Also growing up in a poor family in thirdworldia, you learn never to refuse free stuff due to your ego (you say self respect. i say ego)

I can appreciate that. Most first-worlders would crumble if forced to deal with actual hardship, and don't spare a genuine thought for their comparative fortune in the grand scheme of things. The dignity of never having to beg or debase oneself is a luxury of the well-to-do.

Having said that, it's good to have land.
:bro:

yeah. Some of us are actually poor. You know when i was a kid, when 'rich" relatives used to visit us, and ask us kids what we wanted... We would say raw rice and vegetables and perhaps chicken... and a week's supply would have been like a jackpot. That is how I grew up. that being said, right now, I don't have to beg for food and rent from relatives, and can afford a basic health insurance. Good point to start buying games, but unfortunately not rich enough to buy all the games which catch my fancy.

From looking at the YouTube videos, I think many have underestimated the importance of voice acting in these kickstarter games. I think even infinity engine style where only the first lines are voiced would be an improvement. Even the minimum amount of voicing helps make NPC's come alive and we can then fill in the blanks with our imaginations. I understand it was a budget issue, but with these kinds of rpg's where characters and NPC's are such a key element, I think fleshing out their personalities with evocative voice acting isn't exactly a throw away / non-essential aspect.

With the lack of voice acting, the soundtrack could have been more than just unobtrusive background muzak (based on what I heard so far). They could have used music to help set up the mood and create much needed ambience.

Yeah but how well can voice acting be done on a budget? I'd rather have no voice acting than second rate voice acting.

:x why are they working on a new kickstarter campaign already? They're not even trying anymore to hide this as a "last resort" option. We're gonna milk the cow until it's all dry, huh guys? :(

Kickstarter is just an elaborate pre-order system and market check

Unless its Lord British who spends millions on space trip or Tim S who i think spent it on whores and drugs, better than preordering publisher popamoles.

I'm so glad that Roguey gave me a copy. If I had to buy it, I would be dissapointed playing it, because it seems underwhelming. But being a freebee I could enjoy it a bit more. Fuck, it is still disappointing. I knew I shouldn't have trusted a noname mobile developer, who focus on IOS versions of the game. :x

Am now eagerly awaiting to see people flip flop like crazy when they play it only to then turn again and burn it down for KKK. Also lol at bitching about lack of voice acting.

From watching the youtube I can say it looks like an oldschool rpg/adventure mix with pretty handdrawn atmospheric graphics, great music and a fun and absolutely shadowrun style storyline. And honestly, that's good enough for me. Frankly, I'm amazed that games like this are even made again. Viva KS.

It is however fun to see the rollercoaster ride of emotions here. Carry on.

Plus the content forum already had a sneak peak on Roxor's opinion that made me quite happy to have ploinked down some coin for this.

Looks pretty good to me. Looking forward to giving it a spin in a few hours. I'm glad its existence is bringing abject misery to a few of you.

Fair point and I agree.

I wasn't bitching. It just felt like something was missing and the non-combat music seems very tame and in the background. Nothing like the soul stirring music from Kuldahar in Icewind Dale. Can you imagine the Infinity Engine games without the excellent music and the distinctive voices? While it's not essential, they would have been poorer games without it. That's all I'm saying here.

DRM free only for backers.

I am a backer.

The DRM free version will be gimped anyway. only the Seattle and Berlin campaign. inability to install mods which use other assets. And a lot of snobs will make mods with those excluded assets just for the butthurt. Although, I guess you could pirate the steam DLCs and laugh the butthurt away

Also: lol did everyone back D:OS? or are there some who didn't back either? Still a SRR key would be appreciated even if you don't want a D:OS copy.

The Baldur's Gate games had pretty forgettable soundtracks, except the tavern piece of the first game.

:? did you even check the website out of the video game projects once? Many projects don't have a product that they're going to sell or the smallest pledge levels only give you a "Thank you!" note or something like that. Plus you don't pre-order vague concepts and ideas that may or may not be made into a game.
