As someone pointed out in the youtube comments of the trailer, the merchant has a card of the Defect (claw) in front oh him, so hopefully everyone's favourite broken robot will be in this sequel as well.

Wow. This is major, major news. Definitely beating Hades 2 for me. Good thing I'll get both.

The original is over rated. I enjoyed it but it doesn't last that long and it's pretty shallow and repetitive. It made me try other similar games and some of them are much better than STS, yet hardly anyone knows about them. Yet this game was a darling in lots of sus places. (Monster Train is especially good)

What are your favorite ones? I've only played Slay the Spire and some tabletop games.

For me best of all was Monster Train, I love that game. I also enjoyed Neoverse, Across the Obelisk, and Erannorth Chronicles. Also on Android there is one called Rogue Adventure which is surprisingly good. I ended up buying the full pack with that.

I was nearly put off by the graphics of some of them but they ended up being great and much better to look at in reality.

To give a contrary opinion, Monster train didn't click with me at all, it has that mobile game looks about it which I cannot shake and it bothers me to no end.
Roguebook gets recommended a lot, it's pretty and shares the world with Faeria (which is another nice card+plus boardgame, though the pve content dries up quickly) but as far as I am concerned it feels overdesigned
and I can't find a character and/or playstyle that I'd like.

It pretty much boils down to what tickles your card autism, but I had good fun with Fights in Tight Spaces (the upcoming Knights in Tight Spaces is worth watching for as well).
Great, positional tactical combat. Really gives you this feeling that you are refining your martial arsenal.

Belatro is also pretty good, but really peculiar. One really needs try it to grok it, but I suppose it's playing poker, but you get to develop your playstyle and tweak a standard 52 card deck, filling it with all sorts of premium cards
and you can even cheat in five aces to play. The obvious weak part is that it still uses the familar cards, but it also mixes up some tarot influences. It's really a love letter to card gaming.
Still, when it comes down to it, it's still poker rules and everything is distilled to numbers going up - a casino like experience which is something you might have looked to get away from in the first place.

There is also a pretty good (and free-ish) implementation of Star Realms on steam. I think it got eclipsed by newer offerings in the genre, but it's still a classic.

In experience, Slay The Spire is designed/made to last long by requiring unlocking and getting specific/certain cards/relics for unit class and its based on chance. The probability to defeat the final boss on the 1st try, should be low.
This comment about Slay The Spire not lasting long may hold true if applied to enjoyment, which can be specific/changeable.

Slay The Spire still require focus/attention/disciplines , otherwise 1 mistake can fail/ruin an entire run/play-through.
It also provide situations where one need to endure blows for better payoff later. These implies/require forethought/far-sight/planning which are advance thinking. Thus Slay The Spire is not a shallow game and perhaps 1-2 steps/ranks/level above these.

One can conclude/summaries that the appeal of Slay the Spire steams from, based on the combination of:
  1. Card/chance based game which function/serves as a cushion against failure. Some if not all mammals, are designed/made to be lose averse as it can save, prevent excessive lost of energy. The chance/randomness reduces the blow from defeat/lost which helps in replaying, attempting again. "I got unlucky, cant be helped".
  2. Sufficiently Interesting and varied. Lots of cards, relic even if most are sub-optimal/use-less. & still require focus/attention/disciplines avoiding mistakes & planning ahead.
  3. The basis that more plays, more energy/time spent, would encourage continues play to justifies, make more value of the energy/time/skill spent.

Neoverse in contrast to Slay The Spire, at time played & if recalling correctly; is more visually appealing due 3d graphics and models, has observed less build options (about 2 for each character/unit, 1 clearly seems better), does not have path selection(linear) and thus doesnt need path planning, can defeat the final boss on the 1st try/play-through with no indication to be easy.

While Slay The Spire takes longer to finish/complete with all characters thus more time can be spent enjoying/using it, Neoverse can provide better satisfaction, reflection of skill & fore-tough/planning in its shorter playtime and even consider playing again in the future, thus one can recommend it.

Monster Train been played before Slay The Spire, seems & should be more advanced than Slay The Spire yet the 1st unit/character optimal build/card were obvious to determine, thus beating it on the 1st try with ease. The other units didn't seem interesting mechanically, not different/varied enough nor there seemed better/greater challenge, thus the desire to further play/explore it, stopped/waned.
