@Sonic

You are my hero. Standing up to the mindless retardness of VD in a codex thread deserves to be admired.

But, alas, your fight is in vain.

Gone are the days when non consenting opinions were appreciated here.

Do you actually have one of them "non consenting opinions", Brennus, or are you just flapping your gums? If you do, let's hear it.

I said I liked Diablo in the other thread. I also like FPSs and graphics. Can I have some countercounterculture rebel points now?

We'll see if those negative NPC-reactions on your cybernetic body are worth the "choice". I can't really see this kind of dilemma work in an action RPG.

The cliché-story and the apparently short playtime aside, I am interested in this if they can deliver on that vertical gameplay promise without any "tileset"-feeling. Some kind of better and more fluid 3D environment feeling would be nice to have in an action RPG. No more AI party as in Dungeon Siege but only a single sidekick is a good thing as well, at least GPG has learned something from the past.

I wonder how well sci-fi Mass Effect and Space Siege novels would do. Last time I heard you had to have some original ideas to get published. But of course the gaming masses and their profeshunul journalist only care about teh shainy.

What facet of Space Siege can even be classified as a RPG?

I'm being honest here, it sounds like nothing more than a generic shooter.
Hack'n'Slash...That's what i'd call it. Same as Diablo and Dungeon Siege and Sacred.
Since you have stats and levels and quests some people seem to think that makes those games RPGs. I never understood that standpoint but there is your answer.
I guess the casual developer simply emulates his target audience and is incapable of thinking outside of boxes. He also seems to be incapable of remembering more labels than he has brain cells: Sportsgames, FPS, RTS, a-RPG.
Everything else is a niche-product but still has to fit into those boxes.

The reason why this game can be classified as an RPG is because the genre itself has become so wide that now almost anything can be classified as an RPG. It really should be separated into three (that I'm aware of) genres in videogames: Console RPGs, Roguelikes, and Computer RPGs. Due to the extensive use of dungeons, major focus on stats and minor focus on quests, I would classify this as a Roguelike.

And before I get flamed, yes, I know what Roguelikes technically are, but it seems to me that games like Diablo, TES, and this borrow more elements from Roguelikes than from classic RPGs.

This is essentially how I feel. I think it can be far more important than a difficulty scaling mechanic. Where if you sell your body it not only upgrades your stats but gives you more abilities and more ways to play, but also less control.

I still say it has potential, and I'm not too psyched about the WoW comparison, but that's just one quote.

I'm very happy that you like it. I would be disappointed and I think Chris would be very sad if nobody liked his idiotic idea. You know, the universe balance and all that. As for why it's a stupid idea, well, I attempted to write an explanation, but then I realized that if you didn't understand the quotes and the comments in the newspost, odds are you won't be able to understand the explanation too.

So you don't have a rebuttal and you're just being a prickface? Predictable.
You did notice that you did precisely the same thing to VD in your original reply, didn't you? IE: No substance, just vague "wow that's cool" inter-mixed with being a prickface to VD.

Your complaint is that VD's post ultimately gets summed up to "wow, that sucks" yet your post here:

Wow, Vault Dweller, got an itch in your vagina today?

I think the concept of trading humanity for cybernetic upgrades is a good deal. The fact that it has a bearing on gameplay is cool as well. Sorry if your proselytizing to your insta-hate audience has you thinking you were on to something, you didn't really have a point in this news article.
Would basically get summed up to "OMG that's awsum!!1".

Sentence 1: Ad hominem
Sentence 2: I think it's good.
Sentence 3: I think it's cool.
Sentence 4: Ad hominem

So that's half prickface and half itchy vagina. Good for you.

I'm sorry, I think you missed the part where Chris Taylor started going on and on about using 'humanity' for difficulty but never once mentioning actual role playing decisions. Like the Humanity meter in Bloodlines, it does have potential, but according to the interview Taylor seems to be turning it into a 13 year old's e-penis instead.

Jesus christ... why don't they just add a "Win Game Now!" button to the game menu?

If you want a deep and interesting storyline without any frustrating setbacks (aka challenging gameplay which is becoming a lost art), go and do the outdated thing- read a book! Whoever it was that claimed "In 40 years, anyone who still knows how to read will be considered a genius" probably wasn't far off.

We need a necromance hunter in these forums. I am fine as long as he isn't called Luke Sethwalker.

I hope Uwe Boll makes a move of this one too... The eternal dilemma: should you swap your penis for a plasma cannon and kill hordes of aliens, or keep it and make sweet love to spaceship babes?

I would never do something so terrible to my character as to exchange his "pride" for some scrap-metal.
