But what if he rage-plays the game further? "THIS GAME IS SO BAD I JUST CANT STOP TO SEE HOW MUCH WORSE IT WILL GET". What would that make him?

I bought it on Gamersgate for 20$ AND it hangs in-game every five seconds, on TWO different computers. Had to crack a demo to get something playable.

And yeah, huge inconsistency from Jeff. He was always going on and on about how indies should stand up for themselves and not engage in a race to the bottom.

Anyway, hopefully it gives him a bit more exposure, although I would guess that most of those who impulse-buy the game will find it slow and dull and with too much text, and turn it off within 15 minutes, never to play it again.

Seriously, Jeff, WTF?!

Oh well! Now I am glad I have not yet bought it.

I will be posting about this issue, here and on my blog, on the day that the Steam version comes out. Remember, our 3rd party distributors set prices, not us. We are only allowed to suggest prices. (This is what antitrust law allows.)

The most likely outcome is that Avadon on Steam will be fairly cheap and that we will lower the price of the game on our site.

In addition, future games directly from this site will be cheaper. For example, we've already announced that Avernum: Escape From the Pit will be $20.

So Steam strong-armed him into lowering his prices according to this...

I dont understand.. he will sell the remake of an old game for 20$ while his new baby is at 10$ ? Why even bother to buy from his site anymore if a few months later youll get on steam for half that and almost noting during weekend sales or summer sales?

I hope this leads to the Geneforges and later Avernums being on steam. Then I can scoop up the ones I missed for bargain prices mwhuhaha.

They look too bad for Steam to ever approve them, except maybe for the few later ones.

He makes a significant revenue stream out of them by making his hardcore fans pay full price for them, so that is not going to change anytime soon.

Wow. A Spiderweb Game for less than $80? That's a bargain!

Releasing price control is a risky-ass move for a company that has always existed on long sales of their titles. Jeff better hope to hell the added exposure helps.

A lot of indies have been enormous successes on Steam, but they tend to be quirky and accessible. Spiderweb's next game should be more quirky and accessible. For real guys
