I think it's a bit expensive, too. Especially if they are as similar as everyone says they are.

I see what Jaesun is talking about.

Technically, spiderweb games have tactical turn based.

But really, in many cases, they have a tendency to be rather untactical, as characters have few viable options, positioning is of very limited importance, parties are small and one dimensional and a minimum of emphasis is placed on thinking and developing your tactics.

While tactical turn based games are by far my favorite genre, when they become too untactical, they're an abomination, as instead of thinking about your moves and planning you're just playing a very, very slow and tedious version of a standard hack and slash. He has improved on this somewhat but it's still an issue.

This is how I feel about the "tactical combat" in Geneforge. I tried to soften the blow with the "just an opinion" thing, but I guess that backfired.

Yes. What people are trying to say is that his games look the same and that's, like, totally wrong or something.
I'm happy this won't happen to AoD 1-6. You will make things better and we will love it.

Really? I'm hoping they get as much mileage out of their engine, art assets and even rulesets as is reasonably possible so we get more games out of them. There seems to be no shortage of good ideas floating around the ITS and I'd like to actually play some of them.

I say reasonably possible of course, I'd hate to see them stuck rehashing the same settings and plots over and over, but engines and art assets can and should be reused IMO. Why make unnecessary work for yourself?

I really don't understand the complaints about the graphics. Vogel's games are much more playable than all those shitty first person dungeon crawlers where there's no freeform looking and movement. Vogel's games run at a high resolution and the game and interface look clean. That's good enough for me. At least they don't make my eyes bleed unlike most old-skool RPGs. lol

They're wannabe art aficionados.

The sheer fact that 5 games fit on one CD, means he needs to update that damn engine already!

BLOOM!
He updated the engine between each game, but it was the same engine with a few minor tweaks.

That said, I enjoyed the Geneforge series, but I'm not paying $75 for it. 'Sides, I already own his best games.

I really have a great respect for Jeff Vogel, and all they games he has made.

I just could not get into either of those engines, and hell I even play Wizardry 6, Eye of the Beholder, Classic Gold Box Games or say M&M2 on a regular yearly basis. It just wasn't for me, and I *know* I am possibly missing out on some good storytelling. Maybe... someday... someone will port them to the Fallout 2 engine? ;)

Turn-based doesn't equal tactical by default. Most JRPG's are turn based, but the tactics just consist of hitting shit till you lvl up.

Same's true with geneforge. The combat doesn't make you think, niether during nor when building a character. It's just mindless and theres way to much of it. At least if it was RT it'd be done faster.

Yea, me too. I'm waiting for AoD like for.. huh.. months now.
And I'm pretty sure they will release something soon, and it will be awesome.

Only stupid devs would make unnecessary work for themselves!
We all enjoyed the Infinity Engine from start to finish. Don't even make me drool all over the Gold Box Engine now, after PoR I really got used to it and it was continuative love.
They could release it next year and I would buy it.

VD? How much would it cost to license and port some of your content to it?
Honest, there would be a small but impassioned fanbase. :)

Achja, makes me smile every Wednesday. Sorry in case it was all over your forum already.

All of my life I've tried so hard
Doing my best with what I had
Nothing much happened all the same

Something about me stood apart
A whisper of hope that seemed to fail
Maybe I'm born right out of my time
Breaking my life in two

[CHORUS]
Throw me tomorrow
Now that I've really got a chance
Throw me tomorrow
Everything's falling into place
Throw me tomorrow
Seeing my past to let it go
Throw me tomorrow
Only for you I don't regret
That I was Thursday's child

Monday Tuesday Wednesday born I was
Monday Tuesday Wednesday born I was
Thursday's child

Sometimes I cried my heart to sleep
Shuffling days and lonesome nights
Sometimes my courage fell to my feet

Lucky old sun is in my sky
Nothing prepared me for your smile
Lighting the darkness of my soul
Innocence in your arms

David Bowie - Thursday's Child
