I'd be shocked if the Maker did not exist. Same with the Old Gods. They're just likely not to be exactly like what the Chantry preaches. Afterall, if the Chantry story is just lies, then there would need to be a different explanation for the darkspawn, blight, and the archdemon (which is supposedly a mix of an old god with the taint of the blight).
Plus, if you were to call Chantrys liars than Morrigan and her mother - who loathe the Chantry btw - are also liars as Morrigan also believes in the Old Gods...
I don't think there is enough information in the game to tell if the Maker and the rest of the Chantry canon is truth or not, but I'd guess it's likely that the Chantry is lying for their own gain, or at least misrepresenting the truth. The world of DA has a lot of betrayal, not least of which was that Andraste herself got betrayed by her own husband. It would fit nicely with the setting if it turns out that the Chantry has some hidden agenda that doesn't match their outward appearance at all.
Another thing that bothers me is that is said somewhere that "dwarves don't have souls", yet they used *something* of the dwarven mind to power golems. My impression is that dwarves mostly can't do magic because they have permanent lyrium poisoning. There's some dwarves that live away from the mines, but they were likely born underground, and immediately got the full dose of lyrium. Maybe dwarven mages are always stillborn? I'm guessing that if a bunch of dwarves lived far away from any lyrium for a while, they'd have mages being born as well.
