Story itself doesn't necessarilly matter in RPGs...

...but how it's narrated, the style of writing, or setting all do.
Prove me wrong :P or prove me right :salute:

You're 12. Prove me wrong. :P:salute::roll::lol:
  • See how catchy our communication can be? Simple, short sentences make that happen!
  • I’m not here to prove you wrong; you’re right from several standpoints.
  • Leaving others to ponder what those standpoints might be is one of the keys to good writing.

If you were a fantasy adventurer hanging out with your mates in a tavern, and they asked you what you've been up to recently, recounting the events of Diablo would interest them more than recounting the events of Torment.

It is unfortunate that all this "storytelling" trend filled with shitty RPG romances and near endless character dialogues has taken over the industry.
The atmosphere, tactical and engaging combat, minimal and clever story delivered through lines of text on the screen, those are gone...

"Story" is a false category unless the game decides to have one. A lot of games feature loose narrative elements, but no "story". We should judge games by what they try to do, not predetermined things.

rpg games don't need "story" beyond "there is a chest with gold at the bottom of the dungeon". maximum i can tolerate is "there is a chest with gold and magic item at the top floor of wizzurd tower"

you guys always say this, but your top 100 top 15 is always story hiking romance and so is the codex steam group
Yeah, I just don't buy it. Code'x top RPGs always turn out to be storyfag RPGs.

I think this recent resentment toward storyfag RPGs is caused by the simple fact that bad writers and woketards have realized how much RPG fans care about stories, so they include their shitty opinions and ideologies as much as possible in RPGs. So people try to downplay the importance of stories to take that power and control away from them.

the older i'm getting the less tolerance i have for "stories" in my vidya.

People always say stuff like this without taking into account that they're getting dumber with age.
I pay more attention to stories the older I get. Must be my already massive brain is growing larger as I age
