Suggest a free Play-By-Email (PBEM) game?

Can anyone suggest a decent freeware play-by-email (PBEM) game?

I'd really like to get Solium Infernum, but it's $30 and it's hard enough to convince people to get into play-by-email games without having them fork over $30.

Maybe something 4X, or a lite strategy/war game, anything, I don't care, you name it I'll try it. As long as it's a PBEM game. Don't name weird sandwiches or anything--I won't try those.

I must say I felt the same about Solium Infernum, I got hyped with all the strategy gamers saying it was pure gold but I don't really want to spend any money in something I don't know for sure if I'm going to play it in the long-term.

Anyway, not PBEM but PBF, could I suggest you Werewolf? I played in another forums and it's loads of fun. It would be hilarious playing it in the Codex.

Midnight/MU. Except it's play-by-browser-forms, but that's essentially the same, particularly if you use web mail :smug:

Because I want to play multiplayer games with friends in different time zones who keep different schedules. Not having to all be online at once is a plus.
