"For me, this was one of the hardest games I've ever played. After 20 years of gaming, it's almost natural at this point to try and immerse myself in what I play, but doing so in this case was impossible. If anything, the constant cycle of playing the game versus thinking about playing the game - the association, then dissociation - helped to sharpen the line between game and reality, not blur it. The striking grimness of the contained events, combined with the memory of their transgression, created a very real pathos towards the victims, their killers, and having to deal with consequences for those of us left in the wake. It was certainly not the self-indulgent killfest that many have deemed it." - Dustin, SCMRPG player

I came across this by accident today. Hopefully it hasn't been a topic of discussion before, but I don't recall any. I haven't even played the game yet either, but I figured I would see what the RPGCodex thinks about it. There is also a documentary in the works over this game where it explores video game violence and it's effect on people.

I remember trying this a while ago. I thought it was pretty shit. And I'm not just saying that because of the setting; I don't give a damn (yes, I'm going to Hell, blablabla).

Let the controversy begin many years ago when Columbine still had some poignance and this was new, maybe. The guy sure made idolizing amoks into the douchiest, least interesting thing in the world, though.

Judging from the screen it looks more like a parody to me.

I played this thing about a year ago out of curiosity. It seemed more like a parody than anything. After you die you go to hell and play it out like some sort of Doom game, meet the devil (southpark version) and laugh about the chaos you've caused. The gameplay is also horrendous, though this would be expected from a game made with the rpgmaker(some frigging number). Unless you were actually at Columbine, knew someone who was there, or are on the edge of emotional breakdown, the game really doesn't strike any kind of chord in the conscience.

I just played through it. It was alright if you're bored and have a few hours to kill (kill, not waste), but I wouldn't do it again.

Music selection was decent, cutscenes were alright but were too few and too easy to miss. The action is what you'd expect, but the reward for fighting strategically is non-existant. Once you get to the library you're given the choice to end the game early, well I decided not to and went back down to kill every last kid standing, thinking I'd already wasted my time this far and there must be something cool for doing so... there wasn't.

Once you get to hell you're stripped of all the items you collected through the school, and since there was never any reason to use any of those items in school I'm not sure why they were even there...

I never found Eric, ran out of health kits and died. Very anti-climactic. What really sucks is that you can only save in the parking lot outside the school... maybe I'd give hell another shot if I didn't have to go through the whole damn school again to get there...

2 out of 5... if hell had anything cool I missed maybe a 2.5, but considering the rest of the game...

Must be to show you that you can't take anything with you when you go. Except for guns and health kits, perhaps?

See you're expecting it to make sense, like I did. However there's none to be found; when you get to hell, the only item in your inventory is a pistol, and there was no pistol to be found in the above world...
