Terraria 1.4.5 has been postponed... due to the musician needing time to make new tunes for the game.

On the upside, they're keeping development open during that time, meaning new features being added that were beyond the original scope of the 1.4.5-update.

Patch 1.4.5 removes the male/female options from character creation and introduces body types.



GOG is still on version 1.4.4.9 so if you own it there make sure to make a backup copy while you still can.

Only thing the gender option really affected is the hurt sound your character makes when hit.
1.4.5 just adds some extra options around the hurt sound and available voice pitches, so the UI got changed.

While suspicious and worth a bit of the old side-eye, I wouldn't worry about it too much until there's more blatant bullshit (e.g. the pronoun nonsense).

And Terraria is a terrible example, as one of the games most well known for pumping out massive semi-regular content updates over the past decade.

I'm suggesting their motivation was to add options, not to appease the troons.
That gender's removal here is incidental because of the technical change involved (i.e upgrading a bool to a byte), and not because they're into the woke cult.

Yes it doesn't look good right now, but if Hirato is right and they added more options without removing any, then there's little to no reason to complain.

This woke stuff is so pernicious, I can't even blame people for jumping at shadows.

Personally I'd need to see the other pages of the character creator before I can cast judgement.
If they're unchanged, then there's nothing here; the dozen body types themselves are categorised between male and female (includes mannequins) - which primarily flows through to death messages and little else.
If they have moved the gender button to a different page (as opposed to just straight removing it) and thereby divorcing it completely from the types, then yes, we've got a problem.

People are right to be suspicious; I just think the pillorying should wait until there's confirmation one way or the other.
