Good news! This game has a lot of potential. I wonder if it will take the horror route (one alien, many victims) like in Aliens 1 & 3 or the war against the aliens as seen in Aliens 2 & 4? Good stuff either way.

If it takes the horror route, you would either have only one combat in the whole game or you play the alien.

That would make an incredibly interesting RPG. Probably not very palatable with today's gamer youth's, but I'm sure I'd enjoy it.

I just remembered Alien Trilogy. It was a nice game. It reflected the feel in Aliens much better than AVP & AVP2 combined, despite its own problems.

You wouldn't even have to go outside the core 'canon' of the movies to get an interesting premise for a nice party based RPG.

Look at Alien 2 - change the story there by about 10% - the "Company" sends a crack team of Colonial Marines to investigate the mysterious loss of contact with colony world LVXX-82.

Like any modern military force the Colonial Marines have a variety of specialist positions - General Infantry, Officers, Combat Medics, Snipers / Scouts, Combat Engineers etc. maybe the company sent along some Computer Specialists / Scientists etc to help. Plus the Drop Ship pilot, APC driver. And of course an Android like Bishop.

So straight away you have the basis for a workable Class / Race choice system.

So the Jump ship gets to the colony, and your crack team loads up on to the Dropship, and heads down to the plant to investigate. After a tense (but surprisingly tutorial like!) firefight upon landing, the small outer space port facility you landed at is now secure and safe. So know you have your Ebon hawk like base to form as a central adventure hub, and a place to keep all the phat loots you find!

From here lots of design directions - can you get back to the jump ship? Or is something effecting the ability to take off back to the jump ship you need to investigate? Do you have an APC on board the drop ship? Or maybe there is a sector nearby you can obtain transport at? Or how about checking out the local base armoury for the detachment of Colonial Marines that was posted to the colony? Or should you start at the elite research facility? or maybe just clear an easy agricultural sector out?

Also remember the space pirates and smugglers (4th movie) and the whole premise of evil megacorporations (there is Weyland-Yutani and plenty of space for other competing corporations).

There was an AvP 2?

You mean that as a game, right? After the showcase of failed semantics in the other thread.. Well whatever, yes. It's by Monolith (Littech Engine) and also has an expansion to it named Primal Hunt.

AvP 2 more or less failed to capture the brilliant atmosphere of the first. It had no real character, whereas the first feels different to nearly every other FPS out there.

Agreed about AvP2. The controls to the first one though, they were horrible, too jumpy (or "overresponsive"). A momentary hit of a movement key took you several steps all of a sudden. I hated that, especially when playing Alien campaign. The first game also featured one of the most stunning polygonal water waves, albeit in very limited areas.

Does anyone remember the Aliens slot-machine game, where there were crazy Alien variations like winged flying Aliens, zombified humans attacking you with weapons and you also rode that tank-like marine vehicle in one level?

About the Aliens RPG: I was very disappointed that you couldn't drive that marine vehicle or operate the cargo exosuits in AvP 1 (even though the latter was supposed to make it but cut out). I certainly wouldn't mind being able to finally do these in an Alien game, or perhaps even fly or fly in one of those drop ships.

edit: inserted a forgotten reference to AvP 1 the game and the drop ship from Aliens

Please don't let this game stink...

I hope they use new stuff in the Alien universe like a different corporation other than Weyland-Yutani, no returning recognizable characters, ect. Would hopefully give them more room to work in.
