<a href=http://www.computerandvideogames.com>CVG</a> has posted a <a href=http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=169061>preview/interview</a> of/with <a href=http://spacesiege.sega.com/index.php>Space Siege</a>'s Chris Taylor:
<br>
<br>
<blockquote>Taylor is eager to dive straight in. Staying true to the frenetic action-RPG formula that brought Gas Powered Games such success with the Dungeon Siege series, he informs me that Space Siege is an intergalactic action-romp that sees humanity battling for survival against a terrifying alien race that could peel a man like a monkey would a ripe banana.</blockquote>Scary shit indeed.
<br>
<br>
<blockquote>"Space Siege's combat is far more tactical. You'll go into situations where you encounter aliens and you won't just take out your biggest gun and start blasting them. There'll be combat that's as frenzied as you saw in Dungeon Siege, only there'll be far better pacing this time around. One minute you may be involved in a really intense battle, the next in one that requires strategy."</blockquote>Frenzied, yet tactical. Sounds believable.
<br>
<br>
<blockquote> Taylor would be the first to admit that in the past, plot and characters haven't been his main focus when approaching game design. However, all that's about to change. With the games industry slowly waking up to the power of storytelling and believable, deep characters...</blockquote>I think he's talking about Commander Shepard here.
<br>
<br>
<blockquote>Flying aimlessly into the void commonly referred to as space and with his ship infested with enemies, Seth Walker only has one choice, and I don't mean curling up into a ball and shouting: "We're all gonna die, this is the end, we're all doomed. Whyyyyyy?!" No my friends, his and ultimately your only choice is to pick up a gun and start blasting some bugs.</blockquote>That's some fine storytelling right there.
<br>
<br>
<blockquote> "Instead of a generic male or female character, we decided that we wanted a character that you can go through a story with," explains Taylor. "Seth is like our Gordon Freeman, only he'll be able to speak. He has a look and a history and there's something loveable about him."</blockquote>*sigh*
<br>
<br>
<blockquote>At your disposal will be a collection of abilities that'll provide you with bonuses, including reduced cool-down time for power shots and an increased blast radius for your grenades. It's a system that hints at a far more tactical experience than the frenetic and often mindless mouse-clicking mayhem of its fantasy predecessors.</blockquote>Why? Dungeon Siege 2 had exactly the same abilities. The optimism of the gaming media is killing me. Game X had mechanic A. Game XXX will feature innovative mechanic A, which hints that game XXX will be a much better and deeper game than game X. What the fuck?
<br>
<br>
<blockquote>"We're not going down the Deus Ex road though," explains Taylor when asked if there'll be any similarities to Warren Spector's RPG classic. "Space Siege isn't as hardcore. It's a little more like World Of Warcraft. <u>We've realised that the market is changing. Games are entertainment and people don't want to get stuck on games all the time</u>.</blockquote>Because of crap like Dungeon Siege, Chris.
<br>
<br>
<blockquote> "<u>We want Space Siege to appeal to everyone</u>. If you want to make it more difficult, you'll be able to go down the human path. If you're younger, the moral dilemma may not be so important and you may just want to become a cyborg. More hardcore players will no doubt want to get through the entire game with no augmentations, simply out of principle."</blockquote>Let's hope that smarter players won't even bother installing this epic masterpiece revolving around the quest for more money.

Oh my, isn't it lovely how they think that their customers are retards? I've wasted two horrible hours with Dungeon Siege while waiting for the first patch for U5 Lazarus. While I'd gladly payed 50 bucks for Lazarus I regret that Gas Powered Games got my precious 5 € for DS in the bargain bin. What a horrible boring game.

So now it turns out that the whole cyborg moral dilemma is there only to add or decrease difficulty in a retarded way. And it also turns out that we have another EXTREME collar-grabbing Bauer in an unorginal sci-fi setting.

By the way, the setting is crap. Period. Generic sci-fi and action RPGs dont mix. They wanted to do something else besides fantasy, did they? Did they ever thought of going a different fantasy route? You know, something which isnt copy-pasted from Tolkien/FR?

I believe that most games are entertaining. But this one, along with Oblvious, is not.

Seth is like our Gordon Freeman, only he'll be able to speak

"Damn, i`m looking good."
"Double your gun, double your fun."
"Imma make you remember, where you know my name from."
"Those alien bastards are gonna pay for shooting up my ride!"

He`s probably one of those extreme characters.

Wait, the moral dilema in this game is "do you want to be an awesome robot like optimus prime, or a lame meatbag?"

Either Total Annihilation was a fluke, or (more likely) the people who made it good got none of the credit. Taylor hasn't done anything good since.

Wine sauce, lets blame Dungeon Siege for the ills of RPG-dom while hating on anything Chris Taylor related.

Meanwhile, our own shitty RPG still doesn't have a release date. But we'll show them, we will!

Considering your post in the other Space Siege thread, I assume that "our shitty RPG" is AoD and somehow it's supposed to show something to someone. Well, I'm not making "our RPG" to prove anything or to show something. If it sucks, it sucks. It will neither prove any points I've ever made or invalidate them.

Less of your unsupported hate rants against games you know nothing about and more Age of Decadence. You're not important enough to have a responsibility to people who view the site. Your bitching is only mildly entertaining.

Illiterate tag in 3...2...1...

Other than that...I honestly wish there was some news about "real" RPGs. As much as I love hearing the stupidity around action RPGs....it's getting a little old. And I wouldn't mind a 2007 release date for Age of Decadence to be honest....but bitching at someone like that isn't going to help for shit sure.

Additional: Do you have a projected release date for Age of Decadence yet? I've been trying to submit game data for it on GameFAQs to possibly give it a bit of publicity...but it constantly gets rejected and I think the lack of a release date is why.

It is a successor to Dungeon Siege and therefore sucks. The only people who can make Diablo properly are blizzard. Though I do agree about the less bitching, more AoD part. No one with a functioning brain needs to be told that Fallout 3 and Space siege will suck, we can figure that out by ourselves.

Well yeah i have to agree this bitching and whining about games noone here cares about anyway is getting really tiresome, i mostly dont even read the news and comments or threads about Fallout 3 or similar games anymore because i know that every time the same people post the same boring shit there, geez cant you guys get over that shit and start talking about worthwhile stuff again?

Nope. We still have a lot of stuff to tweak, and honestly, I have no idea how long it would take us. Let's see how the combat video is received and how much criticism (i.e. stuff to tweak) it will generate.

You mean Blizzard North which has closed up shop after practically everyone left to start up Flagship, Castaway and other new studios?

But hell, even Diablo II had its shortcomings when compared to Diablo I (atmosphere being the most important one).

For one such as Sonic The Hedgehog, reading is a petty concern when one can simply buttfuck the hell out of Tails.

Also, Rex alt or sycophant.

Yeah, thats what I meant. The only people who could make Diablo were blizzard, and they probably can't anymore.
