I dont say the Japs worship VAs or shits. But from what I understand "being VA" among them is pretty much "being singers" in Vietnam, or "being minor local musicians" in US. Nothing to despise over.

On the other hand, on US, "being VAs for game" does NOT enjoy that same status. Oh yeah, much lower.
But Japanese do worship some of them. Female VA (seiyu), for example, often presented by agencies as "idols", they sing, meet with fans, and their company sells a shitton of merchandise with their names. Female idols must abide to many strict rules, such as no dating and other ones concerning public image. You see, your average Japanese anime and games fan is an unwashed creature, he often doesn't work or study (NEET), he tends not to leave his room (hikikomori) and lives either leaching from parents, or doing some freelance work via net. Such people consider idols their girlfriends, and when poor gal is caught dating someone, they start atomic rage, and rise stink to high heaven. For example.

Tl;dr: while VAs are indeed treated differently in Japan, I really don't think that such treatment is better than western one.

The sad fact is that Fallout, a midbudget RPG from the late 90s, had a far better vocal cast than we will likely ever see again. Nowadays it's all Patrick Stewart/Max von Sydow/Liam Neeson/Martin Sheen stuntcasting rather than spending the same money on filling the entire cast with quality but less famous actors.

Chris Borders did an excellent job, and has explained how this was from a commitment of Interplay to make voice acting in VGA more worthwhile and serious.

But let's not pretend Fallout was devoid of stuntcasting. Here is the casting process this game had:
We had a really good budget, and Tim Cain wanted some high profile actors to voice these characters. At that point in time in videogame history, not many videogame companies were casting celebrity actors unless it was based on a film license. We decided to cast Fallout just like an original movie, so I started contacting all of my Hollywood contacts that I had at the time

Sure, it had no A-list names like Liam Neeson, and it had names with a shitton of experience in (gaming) VGA (like David Warner), and tended to give key roles to real or at least experienced voice actors, but...Keith David, Ron Perlman, Richard Dean Anderson. That's not that far removed from "Patrick Stewart stuntcasting", if at all, especially considering Patrick Stewart is a really good voice actor, unlike Liam Neeson or Martin Sheen.

Also Max von Sydow is just plain good casting. Sorry bro.

I guess it goes to show that process can't undo talent/skill/dedication, and stuntcasting can work given the right circumstances. Like Fallout. Or, heck, Wing Commander/Privateer and the like.

The real question is who gives a fuck about how Japanese feel about voice actors. Jeesh.

I see your bluff and raise you a "and who is Jennifer Hale again?"

No really. Just now you guys mention her and so I know .Previously, pretty much nada.

VA for games in US is NOT a much respected work. Certainly not as much as in Japan.

The USA has a different measure of respect for professions than Asians nations have. Fact of life. Deal with it.

It's certainly a fair response to "You've written a single short sentence so you care a lot!"

Well, Stainless Steel may have exposited too much there. A simpler and far more elegant 'u mad?' would have spoken a thousand words and still allowed for the same carefully measured response that Brother None employed.

Yip. But he allowed an opening, so now I've won the internet!

What's my prize?

What, eternal shame? Laaaaame!
