I already bought the game on Steam, but not because I expect some grandiose sequel. I've pirated all PB games and this is counter-intuitive way to give them something back. Probably is the worst moment possible, but so be it.

On the other hand, Gothic games cannot be made on Kickstarter buget. Except if they reach something like DB's adventure budget, but that's unlikely because Kwa cannot into Gothic. So, if Risen 2 flops, Piranha is bye bye.

www.gameladen.com also sells Steam codes. I used them before, but I don't recommend them unless there is no other way.

I'm not interested in cheating anyone. I'm interested in buying a full game and supporting what I think of as one of the last bastions in the industry.

I'm just pissed off because of this, why? Isn't a 'publisher' supposed to market and sell your game? Yes? It seems like at least two other people in the world are able to get the full meal deal, but I can't. Maybe only six other people in this country have heard of Gothic and four of them would find it too challenging or complicated or whatever. Despite how bad it sounds like they dumbed it down you'd think they'd want to take my money. That is the job and sole reason for a publisher to exist, right?

I couldn't care less about steam, I have 'proper' backups of all games that I think are worthwhile. I just want to give PB money on their big day. They are worth it. Deepsilver is making it a pain in the ass for me to do that. They have fucked up the point of their existence as far as I'm concerned. They are supposed to get as much money as they can for PB.

I've tried all of these sites on different browsers and computers. I am on the same ISP, it's possible that it's a country problem, ie: Canada can't have the full game, I'm not sure. Can anyone confirm if this site works for them, it's Deepsilvers store:

www.risen2-shop.com

Just click it and tell me what happens, maybe it's some bizarre regional thing.

Thanks.

I mean cheating from their POV. Of course they are cheating us now as it is.

I clicked the link and it worked just fine.

Well, fuck. What's easier, setting up a proxy to pretend I'm from potatoland or just torrenting it and buying it later when it's on sale?

EDIT: I reside 'it' the country I mentioned in the post above. Are any of you able to access this site: www.risen2-shop.com ?

Normally I wouldn't give a shit but PB is one of the *very* few developers that make games that I like and I want to give them cash. I just don't want to get half the damn game that everyone else is getting. I don't care about the 5% 'Pirate Clothes' that you can get for a buck, I want the Island that they cut out of the game. What kind of dick head move is that?

Problems.

Have you tried Gamersgate? They have the base game and the DLC for free if you pre-order as well(the thing retails for $10 bucks otherwise!). It's $50 even if you're not in the KWA but are using a proxy to log in. A bit more expensive than Amazon but GG is safe as houses. You also get $2.75 worth of 'blue coins' to redeem for some cheapo games or DLC, so that sweetens the deal a bit. I used my coins to get Silent Hunter 5 the other day.

Oh and using a proxy for GG is no problem, just have to remember to make your order on the US site then switch back to your regional site to pay with CC or Paypal as you can't go by proxy. Funny thing is that for me the original order still appears in Euros on the 'order history' front page but when you click details to confirm the order it switches to dollars....:smug:

Having said that I don't know why you are in such a hurry. There's already another DLC island in the works so why cannot you wait a few more months for a pack with all the DLC's to date for half the price? Judging by the lackluster reviews you won't have to wait long for Risen 2 to be in the bargain bin particularly given Deep Silver's history.

Decided I'm just going to wait for the Super Platinum Edition with all of the DLC.

Same here. I hope we will reach a tipping point where people stop buying games when released in enough numbers in order to wait for the complete edition in a bargain sale. Maybe that will hurt revenue enough so that the publishers and developers who want to cut their game up in order to sell it to us piece by piece will give up on this bullshit idea in favor of traditional expansion packs that actually provide something substantial and add to the base experience.

Or they'll stop releasing Complete Platinum Editions altogether.

Eh, it's not the DLC that irks me so much. Although, it's certainly not a positive. My decision is largely based on what seems to be the lower quality of the game itself with the removal of factions and significant distinctions in play styles. A big part of PB games for me is going back and playing as one of the other factions or as a different build. BN's review made it seem like the only real 'choice' is in deciding which islands to do in what order and that, ultimately, it really doesn't matter what order you pick. So, after I play through once... am I really going to be interested in going back and doing it again but with a handful of Voodoo spells to get past a few situations where I previously used Silver Tongue or combat or whatever? I suppose someone could argue that the future DLC will prompt you to go back and replay since it will most likely just be areas added to the game and not content after the ending... but... I hate having to slog through something again just to experience two or three hours of additional content. I'd just as soon as do it on the first playthrough. NoTR was different in that it added a significant amount of content and adjusted the game's difficulty and mechanics making it a new experience overall.

Anyway, as if the case with most Steamworks games I'm sure competing digital stores will be selling this at a significant discount within six months as they tend to love sticking it to Valve since it is their servers that do the hosting. Wouldn't be surprised if the base game were available for $15 prior to Christmas.

I believe one of those DLC is the pirates clothes that just provide 5% xp bonus or something stupid like that.

Me too. I'm saving Risen 2 for a rainy day. Or a Christmas Sale. 50 euros is too steep for me. I don't think Risen cost this much on release? I remember it being like 30-40 euros at gamersgate, which is where I grabbed it from at release.

Reading a couple of the comments here remind me of how I feel when buying a game.

On one hand I want to support the studio if I like the game, on the other I want to lambast them (or their publisher) for stupid decisions (read: anything I don't agree with) but it's not like they would listen anyway especially when I've already given them my money. In the end I just buy the game or wait for the Enhanced/Diamond/Platinum/Complete/Ultimate edition and buy that but leave it in a drawer unopened and pirate the game, all the DLC, not having to worry about DRM.

Like Alice Madness Returns, I wanted to support Spicy Horse but I abhor EA and having to register to their spam machine just to play a game I paid £30 for. The case is still in the plastic wrapping and looking at the back I see this: "Required: Internet connection required to install and play" and even though I didn't have to go through that I felt a little embarrassed that I didn't find out first.

Thanks for that, I get Firefox: "Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete."

Yes, I agree with you j, but this is kind of bullshit and I'm detracting from what should be a glorious day for PB.

Anyways, I've tested out the site from Canada from two friends on each side of the country with different ISPs. What I think is happening is this:

The deepsilver site detects that I'm from Canada then redirects to a site that is is probably supposed to go to the north american distributor which just might be: square enix. Then the browser, depending on where you're located goes into an infinite loop or ask.com. How wonderful is that? They fucked up their end of it by redirecting to shit. I'll buy it when they finish publishing it. Fuckem. Sorry PB. I wanted to give you my dollars.

Playing it right now, it's been activated on Steam. Just started.

Seems normal so far, will post impressions as I get them.

Oh, right, inventory isn't grid-based anymore, but you knew that already. Still, it's better than Beth or BioWare crap from what I see, much more convenient to navigate.

Oh yeah, feel free to ask questions if you got any.

How does the combat 'feel' so far? Is it basically Risen 1? Is the engine the same? Oh, also give an estimate on how much content that preorder DLC actually gives. Couple hours?

The combat is more or less like Risen 1 so far, accidentally messed up and got myself half a health bar drained by sand devils. No health regen, eating restores health fairly slowly. Haven't levelled so far, so it's been down to basic attacks + block, despite being armed with a saber it's more or less like staring out in R1 with whatever you manage to scrounge up.

Not sure about the engine, might be the same, but obviously somewhat updated. Animations during conversations are alright, though protagonist's jumping is as amusing as ever. Patty has a new look. You can learn to sneak early on. Still no swimming over "Deep Water" because Kracken.

No idea about the DLC, I'm still at the "intro" island hunting for any stray loot.

Right, and writing seems okay, the protagonist and his superiors don't seem to be durrderpdrool at least so far.

Just had a few sparring rounds with an NPC on the starter island. Guy has a few skills with the blade that my guy doesn't and isn't too shy at all to use them. Damn tough bugger.

Edit: Just moved out of the starter island. Experiencing some shadow glitching on distant foliage.
Edity-edit: Tried fiddling with the options, the shadow/foliage clipping persists. Slightly annoying, though only visible on distant trees. Hopefully it'll be fixed soon or there's a workaround.
Final edit: Beta NVidia drivers didn't help.
