I can barely remember any music from any RPG except for the Wizardry 7 character creation theme, and that's because of how annoying it was to hear over and over. I guess I don't bother to remember background music.

From Wizardry V FM Towns. Seriously the Japanese ports of most of the Wizardries had surprisingly great music, sometimes recorded with a live orchestra.

Fallout 1/2 (though Morgan did rip off some artists)

You mean "steal". It's the right word to use.

Which ones?

the best soundtrack ever made for an RPG is Ys 7 for the PSP

this is the law and will never be beaten by any game ever
:salute:
Except for the minor fact that Ys I & II way back in the PCE days kicked it's ass. Also not really 100% sure they meant jRPGs that are more action than RPG

You can't be serious, Ys is just typical animu corny butt rock.

I was actually trying out Felghana the other day, and I turned it off because I couldn't bear listening to the awful butt rock in the first dungeon.

Ah, I really love that one. Gives you that engaging, hopeful spirit of adventuring.

Love the notes that play when you get a random battle too.

I think its by far Divine Divinity.

Download the whole thing free from the Artist's website.

Just awesome.

So true, this guy is on a whole other level above all the others when it comes to atmosphere, it's just so deep, immersive and detailed. Almost every tune in DivDiv is of a completely different style too.

Div 2 is about just as great.

wow, despite your avatar you failed to mention Divinity 1 -- absolutely wonderful. Best, IMO.

Kai Rosencranz's work is up there as well.

I was saying the soundtrack to I & II on PCE (And ONLY on pce) was better than 7. And how could you consider is typical?

Who can forget the opening music of Shadowrun (SNES) while waking up at the morgue and scaring the shit out of the two technicians? Nailed cyberpunk and 80s cheese perfectly. Worked well when in the streets too.

I remember playing it when I was a college student who had just moved out from his small empty town into a big town with skyscrapers to study, and I liked taking walks at night. Needless to say it was quite fitting since I didn't know my surroundings at all.

Chrono Cross is one of those few games whose catchy music I enjoy without having played the game, like the castlevanias.

Here's some stuff I think is only enjoyable if you can remember the game segment where you heard it:

NWN1 HOTU Rebel Camp- Jeremy Soule

Moribund World sounds quite different from that Aphex Twin track. The rest sound quite similar, yes (especially Vats of Goo and that Brian Eno track, which sound almost identical). Here's what Morgan himself had to say on this, make of that what you will:

We have the information, that Tim Cain in one of his interviews told, that he likes dark gloomy kind of music and is a big fan of Aphex Twin. Some Fallout compositions are VERY similar to Aphex works… Is there any connection, Mr. Morgan? Or, maybe, you intend to say you don’t know neither Tim nor Aphex:) ?

When Interplay was thinking of using me for the game, they sent over some music that they liked and wanted me to do something similar as a demo. The CD they sent me had no titles or artists’ names, just a few pieces of unidentified music. I gave Interplay what they wanted and I think they must have used some of my demo in the final game. At the time, I wasn’t familiar with the work of Aphex Twin. To me, it was just my interpretation of what Interplay asked for.

But Modron Cube music starting like Trans Europe Express?

As my signiture shows, I'm a big musicfag. While others fap to graphics, I fap to videogame music. If you have a favourite music in an RPG, don't hold back, let us hear it! I want to fap for them!

Some of my favourites:

PST - Deinarra's theme

Icewind Dale 2 - Skeleton of a town

Bloodlines - Asylum

I hate to admit it, but DAO - Main theme

Final Fantasy VII - Those who fight :smug:

Morrowind: I hate the game, but the main theme, that I really like. Also I like the Morrowind version more than the Oblivion and the Skyrim reprises.

Diablo: Tristram's theme.

Ultima VIII: Tenebrae's theme.

These are probably my top 3 choices.

I guess I'll just do my usual stick and tell you all that KotOR 2's soundtrack is severely underrated.
