Just played through an indie game on steam called Capsized. It has an unbelievable ost. This track in particular is bad-ass, I wish more devs would put in as much effort as this!

:salute:

A neighbor who thinks he's blessed by the synthesizer gods keeps trying to play similar stuff . . . Would be good without the constant "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" throughout the entire fucking piece (though it does diminish in the second half).

It's just so epic. It makes me want to hurt you. :M

This is one that stays with me, for some reason (it isn't really that good)

We really need to sticky one of these threads.

Anyway, off the top of my head: Ben Houge, Eric Brosius, Mark Morgan, Alexander Brandon, Michel van den Bos, Clint Bajakian, Michael Land and Peter McConnell. Find youtube links on your own.

There can be only one ultimate midi theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOShl4Tcw_E

Even if 2003 is among the weaker entries of the KoF series, it's got the best track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhDXK7yJ3ZM

Valkyria Chronicles had a great soundtrack: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MP9rJdxmuQU

IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO TOTALLY AVOID MASK OF THE BETRAYER ON THE CODEX: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cINoBFdZ3M

IT IS ALSO TOTALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO AVOID TORMENT ON THE CODEX: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZOuy4YM0AI&feature=related

Personally, I think Deionarra's theme is the single best track in video game history.

EDIT: A thread like this isn't complete without the Soul Reaver theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e54tu2XGfGU

Devs didn't write that music, it's by some person(s) going by the name of Solar Fields, they have a good couple of albums, very relaxing music.

I have to post Extasein every video game music thread. Cryo really did some great music. Game isn't half bad either, although there are only 6 or so levels and only the last two are difficult.

I'm guessing you haven't listened to any electronic music before or the closest you've come is daft punk or something

solar fields is ambient techno/psybient music

you could say it's great videogame music in the same sense that the braid ost was: not the usual safe genre choice of 8-bit chiptune or videogame pop metal

edit: listened to linked track and track 4

this is bog standard 'uplifting' psybient, not his best too

No music. Only midi option works.
Exact description of your setup please. List all your drives, in order, and which one's the optical drive. What's the CD audio setting? (there's a "digital" one where data's read through the ATA port, or the "optical" where you need to connect an audio CD cable directly into your sound card and the music is read as it would be in a CD player). Exact OS and so on.

@ OP

Ougon Musou Kyoku, also known as that game in which most important characters from the Umineko universe beat each other senseless, has some pretty good songs, which is expected given godly music is one of the franchise's main strenghts and Ougon Musou Kyoku's ost is basicaly a greatests hits.

Mortal stampede.
Happiness of marionette.
Happy Maria.
Mirage coordinator.
Tomorrow.

And the opening song is nice, though not as good as the rest.

The opening.

However, I find quite unforgivable they did not add this one to Ougon Musou Kyoku's ost.

あかいくつ偽

Is there any Umineko song more closely related to witches kicking each other's tail with great epicness than that one?

That aside, there's also Folksoul, known as Folklore in the western world. Everything about that game is amazing and has great character, including the soundtrack. It somehow manages to comunicate the fey and dreamlike atmosphere of the setting and story quite well, while sounding pretty unique as far as video game OST go.

Between life & death.
The judge and the judged.
The fairy waltz.
Distant memories.

And there's also Pathologic, with a quite interesting atmospheric soundtrack. It is also much more subtle than the previous ones but it somehow manages to make a game about walking around a low poly town while facing great weirdness the most immersive shit, like, totally ever.

The quite cool main theme.
Aglaja.
Utroba, Disease.
Diseased house.
Wild.

And Zeno Clash, with pretty and crude sounding ambient themes I quite like, and give the last touch to the amazing setting that is Zenozoik.

Land of Zenozoik.
Forest of freedom.
Halstedom.
Father-Mother's wrath.

Oh, man. Time to replay Zeno Clash. Again. T-T

That's it. I'm back at doing homework now, I may post others later or whatever.

Let all mortal flesh keep silence,
and with fear and trembling stand;
ponder nothing earthly minded,
for with blessing in his hand
Christ our God to earth descendeth,
our full homage to demand.
