Cimmerian Nights said:I'm really impressed by all you guys that mention how many hours you've put into Oblivion. Not only that but I get the breakdown of what quests/factions they've done. Thanks fellas, I'm tallying up all the figures and I'll let you know who's the biggest douchebag OK?

Cimmerian Nights said:No seriously, I've had enough, it's getting my Irish up ova heah. "I'm 135 hours in with my lvl 16 Viking/Ninja, I've done all the Dark...and I haven't even finished the main quest yet!" I don't give a fuck.
Why, are you roleplaying when you jerk off? Do you play an upright knight, or rather a warty gnome? How'd you like if I give you a detailed breakdown of my masturbation schedule too? "At 8:30 I rubbed one out to the Filene's bra ad in the Globe. Then for my mid-morning wank I painted my other hand black and pretended Beyonce was tossing me off..." It's the same thing - you're wankers. At least when I'm finished jerking off I have something to show for it.
Which means you are not really entitled to an opinion about it.By the way, I'm 0 hours into Oblivion. I haven't walked within 5 feet of the box, and I wouldn't piss on Oblivion if it was on fire.
Right, though chokeberries can be both eaten or used for decorative purposes, which makes me wonder why it is "notorious."Oarfish said:Chokeberries are real.
Sorry for having standards, I thought this was the Codex. :wink:GhanBuriGhan said:Which means you are not really entitled to an opinion about it.

GTA? The same genre as TES? How?bozia2012 said:I wonder how many of you actually played the game? Because all this OB posts are just to fuel the insatiable need of whining about this game. Play it (don't buy it), "enjoy" it, forget it, stop making new threads about it (especially about shitty 2$ mods). I'm sure if more of you (you = those who didn't play OB) played it there would be an end to all OB posts in the Codex. If I'm wrong so why not make posts about GTA? It's the same fucking genre.
I don't see how playing the game would make people stop talking about it all of a sudden, considering that Oblivion is a very important subject, regardless of its roleplaying or general qualities. So maybe the game itself doesn't offer much to talk about, but its unbelievable commercial success will heavily influence the genre. So yeah, Oblivion is an important subject and people shouldn't ignore it.bozia2012 said:I'm sure if more of you (you = those who didn't play OB) played it there would be an end to all OB posts in the Codex.
Well, it's a news post, not just a thread. Besides, I've just played "Titan Quest" and even though I never cared to comment on it before, I really feel the urge now to voice my frustration with this irritatingly bland and laughably generic game. So I guess playing Oblivion would have a similar effect on those who haven't played it yet. People would spot more and more flaws and more and more "whiny" threads would be created.Play it (don't buy it), "enjoy" it, forget it, stop making new threads about it (especially about shitty 2$ mods).

Lumpy said:I wouldn't really call Oblivion railroaded. It's just that in Oblivion, they decided to have less joiable factions, and make them better.
In the end, however, they didn't make them any better. The Mages Guild questline was nice for awhile (the Necromancer's Moon quest was by far the best), but by the end, it became a string of senseless fed-ex crap.
I've just started the Dark Brotherhood questline, and the first quest (where you have to kill a pirate) was preety nice. It had a Thief feel to it: Hide in a crate, sneak past the pirates, kill the captain, and escape through the balcony until the shipmates, who heard the noise, break into the room.
Name one that's even remotely as (potentially) influental as Oblivion. Just one.bozia2012 said:There are many other titles which are significant to the game business and are not present on the Codex.
Games like WoW and GW don't have too much of an influence on projects outside of the MMORPG/MMOG genre, and MMORPGs simply aren't covered by this site in general.OB deserves the right because it features stats and swords? So why not WoW or GW?
I'm very serious when I say that I'm afraid you will be extremely disappointed by the game. Before you buy it, you should at least give it a try. That crappy demo really is representational of the full game in absolutely every aspect, except for the size of the game world. And just so you know who's saying this: I liked Diablo and Diablo 2, I absolutely loved Sacred and its addon and I'm still having a lot of fun with Fate, so I'm definitely not against "twitch-based" action RPGs in general. Titan Quest simply sucks.EDIT: can't wait for Titan Quest
As far as I know, GTA:SA was neither promoted, nor percieved by the public as a purebred RPG. Oblivion is a completely different matter.bozia2012 said:Potentially influential? Why not GTA:SA?
I wouldn't be able to tell, since the only MMORPG I've ever tried was Ultima Online. However, I think the Codex' decision to "ignore" MMORPG related news isn't based on their roleplaying value. It's simply a different genre, a genre the Codex staff just seems to hate/not give a shit about. Is WoW less RPG than OB?
In my uninformed opinion, crappy single player RPGs and crappy MMORPGs are crappy independently from each other. But to be honest, I've never really thought a lot about online gaming in general, since I'm almost exclusively into single player games. You can't see that the dumbing down of RPGs it leading to MMO?
Just ignoring everything we consider shit won't save the genre either though.VD or Spiderweb Software won't save the genre
The "dumb fun" factor is what I like about Fate, but Titan Quest is more of a "dumb annoyance". Really, it's like the designers wanted to create a fun mix of Sacred and Diablo 2, but ended up ripping off only the flaws of those two games. It's just a collection of shortcommings, dated design and awfully boring art direction. Well, you already ordered the thing, so I can only hope you love the color brown, since it's the game's visual main theme. It's like Madness Interactive: dumb, repetitive and... fun
