I've yet to finish the thing, and I agree on the prologue, it's quite a bit meh, to say the least. Feels like they wanted this to be a tutorial and a fast paced introduction all alike, just that the pace with endless boring swordplay goes downhill pretty fast. Yeah, still haven't warmed up to the fighting. It's clumsy. You don't react to visual clues as such, save for the attack icon, and animations occasionally just abruptly end just like that. Almost feels like somebody teaching an engine tricks it was never meant for.
Still, Act1 so far looks solid and pretty interesting, can't see what makes people going nuts over this game so far though. The games that made me do this usually let me know just a couple of minutes in that this_is_special and I'm in save hands here. Awaking in the mortuary in Torment, no idea what's going on and a floating skull trying to get it on with the reanimated ghouls running around. Or the opening to Grim Fandango. Just brill stuff like that.
To me Geralt, however, is just the big hunk with silver hair and a damn big sword, in short: that character I'm supposed to play in this game,.. so?! And his world is a place full of quests to tackle, albeit rather well-designed with a few very nice touches here and there. It's not that I'm not enjoying it, but it jez doesn't have that special something. Recently bargaining over a quest reward with a drunkard and ending up fighting vicious monster plants from God knows where drunk as a monkey made me crack up though. :D
