Writers Guild of America, not having much to do because of the strike, decided to kill the boredom by creating a new award for best videogame writing. Among the five nominees, the only cRPG is CD Projekt's The Witcher. The only other PC game on the list is World in Conflict and the other nominees are Crash of the Titans, Dead Head Fred and The Simpsons Game.

We are very proud to be nominated for such prestigious awards, as we understand how quickly videogames evolve and how great story writing should be exposed, especially in the RPG genre" - said Adam KiciƱski, CEO of CD Projekt Red. "The story has always been at the core of our game and we know, that it is essential for a videogame to tell a story, because it allows gamers to become immersed in the game. What is more, we have put a very strong emphasis on decisions made throughout the game as well as on their consequences, so that after finishing the game players are truly satisfied with the output.

Sad that there's no MOTB. Even I, something of a Witcher fanboy, think MOTB had much better writing.

Yeah, Chris Avellone even expressed grief about it. The thing is that WGA only accepts candidates that have separate writer credit, but in Obsidian's case the designers are the writers and that's why they get no respect, fame or love.

Bioware on the other hand has been smart enough to credit writers (Jade Empire - lead writer Lukas Kristjanson, Mass Effect - lead writer Drew Karpyshyn) separately. And sooner or later Drew Karpyshyn is going to win that award, while Chris Avellone quits gaming forever for Myspace comics.

Edit: And of course - GO WITCHER GO!!!

What the fuck? Is it that game that has characters from the Simpsons that morph into giant lava balls? I find it hard to believe that such a stupid game might have good writing.
Funny they wrote for this. Isn't it technically breaking the strike? Or does that only apply to TV?
