Played it, didn't care for it. My favorite character is Tali.

Australians are the saviours of white society. You'll see, we're nearly bigger rednecks than the yanks. And that's saying something.

How's life from behind the Great Firewall?

Do you have fish-headed aliens in Australia for the Codex to mancrush on?

Oh yeah, mang. Heaps. Just the other day I was man-crushing hard on fish dudes. Without nasty internet content, actually, most Australians have devolved into fishy man-things. I'm rolling with it.

Fuck yeah, it's so fun to walk along linear path and press spacebar from time to time.
Yeah walking along a linear path in the interrogation room interrogating a prisoner AMIRITE.

A non-cliche story about a father wanting to make amends with his son is OH SO BORING.

Let's see: in ME2 alone we have:

a) Mother - daughter
b) Sister - father - sister
c) Son - father

loyalty quest-related relationships. Dying emo-assassin feeling sorry for his kid feels totally non-cliche in such a company, yeah.
You've identified a common theme in the game, GENIUS. The whole point is to follow the overall theme of the relationships between parents and children. And Thane's story is still portrayed from a different point of view (the father's) from the rest of the companions. So to call it cliche because of that is bullshitfucktarded. To call it cliche, point out where the same character is done in other games.

So... Carth Onasi, KotOR1, Korriban, Dustil? And I'm saying this as someone who was happy with how combat-free that entire mission was.

A)That was a minor event in Kotor, not the overall theme of the character. Carth is a whiny moron first and foremost, while Thane is a worried father.

B) To show that it's a cliche you kinda have to point out examples from more than ONE other instance.

So the fact that Carth's entire backstory was recycled for Thane--by the same studio, you know, Bioware?--doesn't mean anything to you? Okay then.

Minor event? It was pivotal to the whiny piece of shit. It's also pivotal to Thane. KotOR didn't exactly revolve around the salvation of Dustil; likewise ME2 isn't centered around the salvation and betterment of Kolyat.

Carth thought his son was missing, or dead. He lost his wife, and wants revenge, and because of that he is an angsty vengeful fuck in the actual game and is scared of being betrayed.

Thane knows his son is alive, but is afraid to see him. His wife also was killed, but he already took revenge and thus in the actual game he is NOT an angsty vengeful fuck. He's simply regretful of some of the ways he's led his life.

Their backstories may be similar in that they lost their wife and kids, but the events affected each in two wholly opposite ways.

Edit: Not to mention Thane's wife was murdered directly in retribution to his actions. Carth's was not. And Thane's pagan spiritualistic side.

Shhh, be quiet, your logical analysis of the situation will anger the anti-fanboys. Like skyway, who thinks Krogan are just "Orcs in space!"

Comparing glorious Orks with retarded adrenaline-fueled walking lizards is grave insult.

just ordinary and non-cliche

Emo assassins are of an ordinary type?

WHERES DA SHOOTAN I HATE NONCOBMAT QUESTS.

Considering that most of DA SHOOTAN consisted of gluing extreme ass to indestructible cover and waiting until enemy head pops, I seriously can't decide which type of quests sucked more.

Also, Samara's quest was fun if you picked renegade dialogue options at the bar. It even had consequences, lol.

Like I said, he's hardly emo. He already avenged his wife a long time ago. He's dying, but due to his beliefs he is not at all sad about it.

He's ordinary because his main flaw is not going back to his son, which can happens and happens to many ordinary people, master assassin or not. And this is not cliche because it's not a common theme explored from the father's point of view, at least in gaming.

And yes, his personality is quite ordinary and subdued, emo assassin or not, not over-the-top.

Yes, Samara's quest the best overall for non-combat. But the interrogation room conveniently slips your mind, huh?

I seriously think Thane is the gal's favorites because:
1. Garrus isn't available.
2. Jacob's a nigger.
