It's like watching a car crash in slow motion. I mean, I've been in this thread since the first page, I knew it was going to be bad.

I somehow didn't foresee it being THIS. BAD. Like, this is Colonial Marines levels of "WHERE THE FUCK IS THE DEVELOPMENT BUDGET?!?"

At least now I don't need to waste bandwidth on it.

If there's ever a stream of someone playing in hard mode or whatever where all the UI visual cue crap is turned off then post it. I want to see how well the gameplay works (if it works at all) playing old-school style using only basic sight and sound. So far this shit is the epitome of "dumb console game" and "franchise rape".

All right, i hate to play the Devil's Advocate, specially about this fucking trash of a game, but...

I actually like the nudity and the whole House of Blossoms thing. I just think it contributes to the dirty, dark and gritty atmosphere that they were trying to give us. I dont think it was meant to be pornographic, i think they meant to just create an atmosphere. I mean who the fuck faps to that. I'm not saying that a Thief game (like the old ones) needed nudity to make mood. I'm saying that the new, edgy and dark Thief, can use that as a tool and it doesnt offend me.

To be honest, it doesn't look too bad. The City streets look just as the Thief City streets should look like - crooked, condensed, medieval, charming. The thief now has a number of abilities that a master thief logically should have - such as the ability to dart swiftly and quietly behind a target's back to avoid detection, which is a lot more sensible than "hiding" in a brightly-lit corridor in plain sight just because you know the AI isn't going to look back. If the original Thief games weren't constrained by the hardware/software limitations of their time, they would have had many of the same mechanics too.

Focus field seems like a fairly boring function, but you don't have to use it if you don't like it - just don't press the fucking button, or set the key to void in the options. Didn't hear any of the alleged "annoying whispers" in the video, btw. All the hand-holding can be turned off, and the change in light-gem gradation make sense - Thief always had three visibility states - total darkness, where you're completely invisible, partial shadow where guards begin to suspect something is wrong and start to walk in your direction, and bright light, where you can be seen by anyone who looks in your direction. Any gradations beyond this are extraneous - they add no relevant information.

And then there's the fact that new Thief threw out all the Hammers, Pagans, and Keeper stuff, and instead seems to go for a more "realistic" medieval/Victorian setting - well, in Thief, the story and setting always served the gameplay, and there doesn't seem to be anything terribly objectionable about the setting and story, aside from the fact that it's different from original Thief, so maybe give it a try?

I didn't get the lockpicking minigame, though - why do you sometimes see what's going on inside the lock mechanism and have to manually set the heights, and sometimes do it blindly? And I don't like that Garret's hands are now always visible when you walk, even if you're not holding a weapon or doing anything.

All in all, seems like a worthy remake of a classic stealth game series.

You're ignoring the most likely possibility. The people who made this level are just really creepy and enjoyed making a level where you peep through keyholes to see naked women.

The people who made this level are immature manchildren who grew up during the golden age of gaming yet somehow managed to never play any of it, leading to a complete lack of level design instinct. Probably churned out by some shitty degree mill like AI and drowning in student debt.

Mechanist stuff outside of more simpler technologies like electric light and steam systems, that were brought by them, was banned and considered a crime after the events of TMA. That's made clear already on T3, where you can't find robots and cameras anymore.

More like Deadly Shadows went for a terribly generic looking world that had little of the charm of its predecessors. Even outside of the Mechanist technologies, most of the architecture, interiors (minus the fantastic mansion level with the widow) and general art style looked like it belonged in a separate universe to both TMA and TDP. Nevertheless it was a fun game and probably a masterpiece compared to ...this thing, but in terms of respect to the setting and the grossly cut-down gameplay I don't really consider it a proper Thief title.

The sex isn't a problem, I don't think anyone would say it has any direct relation with how bad the game is. Knowing, however, how pathetic this dev team is, it's very likely that they put it in just for the fuss on the media, hey, free marketing is free marketing.

If this was LGS and an excellent sequel, I'd believe in the theory that it's just another way to show The City in its entire crudity. Being a totally incompetent team that doesn't know shit about visuals, sounds, gameplay, AI programming, level design, dialogue and story writing, cutscene creation, innovation (NuCradle... oh god) and the original games... It's just impossible to believe that they wanted to achieve anything other than "hey dudez put soem sex in it roflmaocopter boobz!!!!!11". At least that's what matches the quality of their job.

Is it the same team that did Deus Ex:HR? Because it's a hell of an overstatement to say those guys were totally incompetent in those regards. Looking at the early videos, I'm still thinking perhaps 'Deus Ex with swords' was the model of game they were initially going (under the Thief title), and by dropping the exp and going partway to a 'sneaker' game, they're going to fall in the nowhere zone.

You're totally right. The inclusion of gratuitous sex scenes where there were none before is not a retarded, try-hard appeal to the masses of adolescent males at all. Nope, it's completely mature and appropriate in this context.

No it's a different team but the same developer name.

No, and Thief in fact started development over a year before Deus Ex: HR did.

Quite a few reviews of this would likely just be competing on how thoroughly and creatively they can tear this apart.

I like how the game ends without any final exposition or anything at all, just Garrett looking out over this vista which you can't really make out because the graphics are such shit and then BOOM, game over.

Clearly they were forced to ship this so fast that they didn't even have time to close it out with a shitty monologue.

This is a good place to reflect on past achievements, given we can now compare them 1:1 -

Speaking of only one action track, iirc Dishonored also had one combat track that was sorta irritating after some time.
But don't pay attention to this, that doesn't make the situation any better.

So far the only positive thing about this one is the fact that there are nude chix having sex innit. I wholeheartedly approve more sex in games.
