I love Thief 1/2 and Deus Ex a lot. I'm gonna have to go with Deus Ex on this one though, because I remember when I first played Thief I got lost in levels for hours and it got really frustrating.

Yeah, really nice map, guys. That really helps.

The idea of the maps is that they were drawn by informants or copied from books, so inexactness was to be expected. The maps were just there to give you a general idea , navigating was mostly by sight and compass.

The real question is... The Nameless Mod, or Thief Fan Missions? I'd choose TNM, because it does some really clever stuff with the Deus Ex engine. Thief FMs are cool too, but they crash frequently (In my computer, at least).

There are innumerable high-quality Thief 1/2 fan missions.

True. However, the ones I have played felt like very polished versions of the "official" levels, haven't seen anything like TNM.

EDIT: Shouldn't System Shock and Ultima Underworld be on the poll?

Thief almost qualifies as a work of art.

Deus Ex is just a cool 7/10 game. Nothing transcendental.

when something reminds me of thief (2, mostly), i invariably go and play it again for at least 1/3 of the game.

when something reminds me of DX, i just smile fondly to myself and sigh wistfully.

It's impossible to get lost in games now.

Spoiled children.
