This is a pretty good game so here's a mini review to raise the thread from the dead.

There is no woke agenda that I could notice

They switched from the "Black Ones" of the previous Witchers to "Blackclads"
One has to wonder why

But then again I'm an autist

Fair enough, I missed that one. Although when pronounced it always sounded like "black lads".

Stupid of me to waste time and money on this game before reading the codex thread on it.

Edit: The game was ass, and if I had read this thread before buying, I would have known it.

Game's pretty damned good. Very well-told story, actually pretty impressive amounts of C&C (I just lost one of my favorite hero cards from an event, and earlier I upgraded a hero card in the same way, but there's plenty of story C&C as well). Gwent is Gwent but it's pretty much as sophisticated as I've seen it here. The C&C is also curiously unmodern - the game autosaves to a single save every time you make a choice near as I can tell, so I've been living with the consequences of my choices even when I'd normally be tempted to reload.

It also has a few of those fleeting moments where you'll actually feel rewarded for figuring out a choice that was well-presented and subtlely gave you all the info without making it obvious. For example, I was punished when I attempted to free some tortured soldiers where I should have realized it was an ambush (the signs had been given to me multiple times), and I was rewarded for not trusting a Scoia'Tal in a situation where he seemed very trustworthy in the moment, but where the game had told me multiple times before that Socia'Tal under this particular leader would never keep a promise. It's rare choices in games like this are given consideration outside of their actual cutscene/story-beat, but this one feels like it has more holistic writing than your average CYOA-story.

My one criticism holding me from claiming this as 'Shandalar'-tier goodness is that the exploration is meh and the deck customization is very lacking. The actual card battles are fun and surprisingly varied, there are so many different challenges, but I'm in Chapter three and the changes I've made to my deck are very marginal, which is a big, big knock on a card RPG.

Anyway, it gets a recommendation. It's not often I enjoy a video game story this much, but I thoroughly enjoy both characters and writing in this one. It's pretty good at being grimdark while stile having plenty of merriment and not just being dour or sour for the sake of being edgy, and the cast are very enjoyable. For example:

The radical semi-racist guerilla warrior that wants to murder every single elf she meets turns out to be a half-elf with an elven mother who hates the Scoia'Tael more than just elves in general, and she's more of a ruthless pragmatist that is passionate about killing her foe than someone with more clichéed reasons for fighting the non-humans. She's hard to love but also hard to hate.

It was a decent enough experience. Card game proper was kinda meh, but serviceable; story, visual design and what not were great though. Shame it didn't get any sequels.

It's also on sale right now. Tempting...

It’s a complete bargain at that price honestly. The production values are quite high - like Heroic Liberator says, visually it’s a very nice experience.

It’s also more faithful to the source material than a lot of Witcher content. Lots of subtle hint to book events and characters. It’s the best game depiction of Demavend I’ve seen, for instance.
