In fact, the game is quite conciliatory when it comes to avoiding frustration. You'll be able to open a town portal at any time just by hitting the Space bar. No items or inventory space required. And you can actually return to any town at which you've activated a gate. When you're done in town, just go back to the gate and go back to where you opened the portal -- or you can use the gate to travel elsewhere. No cooldowns required, no goat sacrifices, just the Space bar.

Too much. I propose that a town should slowly travel behind you. If you are tired of killing monsters or need to sell some loot, you just turn around and - ta-da! - you are already in town! It's a revolutionary idea!

I think if a fight is too difficult for you, you should be able to push the '?' key and a question mark will light up over your head in game. Then a high level hero will soon wander by and offer to clear the area for a few gold coins.

If a fight is too difficult, it means the game is poorly designed and, obviously, unbalanced. You are the most awesome hero, so your triumph over all enemies, big and small, is only natural.

Only if you use your freedom to use this optional option. That goes without saying.
You don't like it ? You're weak-minded.

Oh wait...

Level 2 actually. You need the gubbins from the shrine to do the main quest.

Yeah, I played Oblivion last night. I feel dirty. But good.

So where's the counter-argument that mainstreaming is not equal to dumbing down then?

Like an escort mission.. If the town that's following you dies, you lose the game! Wouldn't that be swell?

[Section8 loves escort missions]

That really depends on where you started from.

At least give us the goat sacrifices. I would pay top dollar for a bronze age rpg, that gave you goodies for goat sacrifices.
