Merida, again
It's supposed to be dark. It's not like those rooms have electricity so you can turn on the lights. That's some modernist popamole bullshit right there Bro. Turn in your RPGCodex card.

You can use flares for a light source, like you are supposed to.
Anyone who uses flares all the time in case will run out. They burn out in no time. No, that's just not right. Dumb bitch should have taken a flashlight.

It's not like there is any light source, most of the time. Should be pitch black. Get out of here with that realism. Though, there is a balance, obviously.

Still would rather not play with the new graphics because I want to know the original, not someone's interpretation, and the old textures and simple geometry mesh better.

Finally found the switch to the door on the right by dropping into the hole before it with a flare. Must have walked by the switch at least six times, thinking there might be something else in the chamber beyond the switch

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
TR3 is the jankiest and most obtuse TR game, so don't worry about situations like that, they simply happen in this game. It was made by a junior team with less experience.

Aren't modern games who make everything too dark, older games were brighter?
I read the same happened at Soul Reaver Remaster, they made everything darker

I hoped to beat it without looking at a guide. (Looked up one thing in Tomb Raider. Can't remember how many in Tomb Raider II, because that was seven and half years ago.) But the ATV was really annoying me. Pressed every button and still couldn't dismount. Assumed she can't. Tried a jump twenty times. Tried again to dismount. Looked at a video, saw the player dismount. Found a Steam post saying End key + Left/Right key. End key meaning Circle/B. Page 5 of the PlayStation manual says Dismount is simply Circle!

You might be blind or just unobservant. Perhaps it is something with the "remaster" graphics rendering idk, but your screenshots show no issue upon a glance. There are times where seeing a switch or interact point is obtuse, but both your examples aren't those times. You're going to have difficult moments to come. Water switches in TR3 can be particularly obscure because of a wavy underwater lighting effect they used. I don't have an issue with this, obtuse is better than braindead modern shite, and I don't think the game crosses the line all that much in this regard. One or two instances maybe.

With that said, TR3 is worth playing to some extent but only if you have depleted all other superior 90s gaming options, from PC to PS1 to SNES and so forth, of which there are many. Still, I wont dissuade you further from TR3 as for all its faults it's still way more engaging than 95% or more of shit made post-2000.

You won't run out of flares if you use them when you need it, don't worry about it. Also don't be afraid to use ammo.

As for TR3 being obtuse, yeah, maybe in some places. I only needed to use a guide when I tried to interact with every block in a room in India but couldn't find the exact one that's interactable and thought I'm supposed to do something else. Turns out, no, the game just didn't register my attempt on one of the blocks. I like TR3 more than 2 outside of that.

I wonder if it would be easier to see on my OLED TV than on my IPS monitor. The distance is longer than at my old apartment, so would have to get another HDMI cable.

I haven't got to the TR2 or 3 remasters yet, but in TR1 remaster I would definitely have missed a couple of keys in Greece if I didn't already know the maps inside out. The updated graphics made them pretty camouflaged.

Pretty minor complaint though.. these are still better than most games released today.

This is how bad I am. Shouldn't take anyone this long to get inside the compound in Nevada.

"She don't look much like one of them. Maybe she's an eco terrorist or somethin'."

"And they wear hotpants, huh?

She's not wearing hot pants, she's wearing pants in this level. So lively in the cutscenes, but in the game they're, funnily, like evil AI. Silent, still, always staring.

Nevada was my first of the three choices. I dropped the game in London eight years ago, one of the two other choices. Was stuck. Don't remember what the roadblock was, but feel more in the zone now.

Edit:

Yeah, IPS is just too crappy. She has no flares, no tools at all, after being arrested. I couldn't see this barbed wire at all. Went right into it and died. Looked at very long high speed HDMI cables, so that I might use my OLED TV. Too expensive for this temporary living situation.

Edit: The background noise with heartbeat in the alien structure in Tomb Raider original is too distinct to use again inside the high security compound.

That's abnormally dark, check your gamma/brightness settings or something. But yeah, that's the only level I had problem with the darkness on and had to consult a guide because I literally could not see where I was supposed to jump or climb or whatever. The rest of the level (and the entire game) isn't as dark.

A problem in many old games where lines were recorded before the final touches.

That's not too bad. I think my recent stat here was around an hour, maybe a little less. Nevada does have some tricky bits and hardcore backtracking. Fairly good level. High Security Compound however is not a great level, though as usual for all its faults again is better than most modern shit. The level after it is somewhat better.
I am invested in seeing how far you get, because I always end up quitting TR3 at some point. So much charm and yet some spectacular stumbles that really keep it from the same level of quality as its predecessors. There's so many better games to play.

Can't figure out what you're supposed to do after dropping into the hole beneath the satellite dish, swimming through that passageway and then crawling into the short bending corridor with the one soldier. No switches in this corridor. Just finding the passageway to this corridor and getting her in there was annoying as fuck with the water pushing her. Drowned several times. Was I supposed to have found a gun already? Want this level to be over. Too long. She's the tomb raider. Might cheat myself with a guide. Haven't so far, and I don't count looking up the controls for getting off the vehicle that weren't correctly transferred from PlayStation.

No guns until the end of this level.

I appreciate the attempt at switching up the gameplay here but it follows 5 levels prior of minimal combat (relative to the prior games), and the whole inventory robbing thing, then some of the death traps in this level suck ass. Things pick up steam in the next level at least.

I only played this level recently but I don't remember. It's fairly straightforward though, just explore, be observant and you'll find the way. The water tunnel sucks bad but you got that figured out so the worst is behind you. Only use a guide if genuinely stumped.

When I was a kid I usually stopped out of my TR3 runs around the London underwater maze level. Anti-fun. I liked the other levels though, including the weird Nevada ones.

I love water levels in 90s games. So many classics including those in Tomb Raider such as the Cistern. A great loss for gaming that they were gutted for being too hardcore for simpletons. However that London level might take the cake. Modern London isn't interesting enough to justify four levels, should've stripped it out along with a level from each other location to make way for a genuine ancient tomb to raid.

The ship levels were my favourite in TR2. I know people hate them, but I don't really see why. I like the oppressive atmosphere. TR2 is my least favourite of the original trilogy in general, though, there are too many human enemies to fight constantly.

Woke up a little early today, which gave me time to find the orca whales and alien and enter the spaceship. Take it back; area 51 is not too long. Well, maybe a little. Few moments had me pretty stumped, but still no guide used. Also a few cheap traps or not enough time to react the first time.

Looking at this pulpy weirdness makes the direction of the series under Crystal Dynamics even more bizarre. Really sad. Not even good as a separate thing. They have no vision.

Surprised also that Lara Croft has killed so many American soldiers.
