TES does have a pretty cool pantheon and myths (especially the ones about Vivec) but the article did a really bad job of expressing that.

I'd say Glorantha/King of Dragon Pass slightly wins in the 'Best Gods' category just for the millions of awesome myths and beautiful Celtic/Germanic atmosphere.

But no, we got fairies,

If we actually had fairies as they are in the old myths we would be far out the christian comfort zone you speak of, amusingly enough.

:rpgcodex:

Don't mess with the fairies on my watch.

In game? Who does? Because I'm sure they'll be every bit as reliable as every other NPC in this game :smug:

Oblivion =/= hell, that was just Mehrunes Dagon's realm.
Because Peyrite's Realm and Boethia's Realm totally did not exist in this game and were totally not identical to Dagon's. Right, you terminally stupid fuck?
:smug:

That's about as much Mastermind as I can read in one go.

Gotta go with Dibella on this one. Any Goddess that has naked chicks in her temple is ok in my book.

Dagoth Ur was referred to as the Devil by ignorant religious commoners and temple fanatics, which does not suddenly make him the equivalent of OMG SATAN. Sort of like Hitler might be referred to as the second Antichrist by some people, which still does not make him the equivalent of Satan.

It was painfully obvious that Dagoth Ur as the devil was a popular misconception perpetuated by the illegitimate (illegitimate as in illegitimate in their pretensions to divinity) Tribunal and the Temple.

This. Unless you count the trickster god - Lorkhan.

Of course, there is crapload of minor deities, semi-significant lesser daedra, demigods and god-heroes in TES apart from 8+1+16.

I've said it before but nobody took me seriously: Orcs are shit people. Literally.
But they are shit in most dignified and cool manner possible.

Unlike Mastermind.

villain of the story said:
A discussion that can only serve to incite nostalgia and sadness. Elder Scrolls series had a very decent shot at being covert tales of semi-Lovecraftian cosmic horrors and intrigue mingled with fantasy but instead went full retardo with Christianising the game.
Direnni tower with curious adamantium core that might actually be a remains of whatever passes for a spaceship in TES?

villain of the story said:
Redefining game lore around Christian values of good and evil where Daedra = evil, Oblivion = almost like Hell, villain = SATAN!, what with demonic invasion from hell theme...
They even styled the temples and worship after christianity and gothic cathedrals, respectively. In case someone would somehow fail to get it from all the other stuff.

In Daggerfall we had naked temple dancer chicks. In Morrowind we were told about dozens of distinct cults dedicated to Dibella alone, with numerous specifically focused on erotic side of beauty. In Cyrodill?
Fucking.
Gothic.
Cathedrals.

:rage:

And now we have dragons awaking to destroy everything so that the player can hunt them down and leech their powers. It's not like they care to add any intrigue by adding giving loyalties to dragons, some intelligence and faction dynamics to dragons as dragons aren't supposed to be mindless predators in TES but no that wouldn't be epic enough. We have to have something that we can call evil with certainty. Once again, a shitty good vs. evil trope.
This.

VotS, they have to if they intend to sell any considerables amount of copies. Listen, Christians, especially the ones in the west, Anglos specifically (which also happen to be THE target audience as far as publishing studios are concerned) are an extremely narcissistic sort. Bigoted too, oh how bigoted they are. Even the self styled liberal and/or secular ones. What I mean to say, they love anglo Tolkienesque bullshit, with elves, and dragons, and orcs, and banally simplistic evil-vs-good storylines, which basically describes almost EVERY RPG out there. All they want is a mirror held up to them. They've all seen it before, they've all played the same game over and over, only with a different name. As far as they are concerned, as long as it helps them remain in their comfort zone, it doesn't matter if it's the same game with a different name. There is so much in slavic, central-Asian, and even west African mythology and/or fiction to milk for game content, enough for about 100 Elder Scrolls sequels. But no, we got fairies, elves, and all other spoon-feed Tolkienesque bullshit that is pretty much the only thing on the shelf right now for these English speaking peasants to gobble up. So I think it's not so much uniquely a Christian thing, as much as it is an anglo thing that you are seeing.

Exterminatus. Now.

Other than Daggerfall (maybe daggerfall too, never bothered to finish that piece of shit) every TES game has had a good vs evil plot with a villain at the end.
Except for such little details as how Dagoth Ur was much more sympathetic than the Tribunal and how Azura was just a petty little bitch in for revenge, who might have been aiming (but might haven not) for clearing the path for latter shitstorm.

They even refer to dagoth ur as the devil for fuck's sake.
Some define to white people as "white devils", does that mean they are?

No Caucasoid, you are the demons!
And then Mastermind was HERPDERP.

Also, apart from realms, we have Molag Bal, who, while always pretty much evil in mortal sense, went from being a king of rape and other ways of forcing mortals to do stuff to I AM SATAN AND I CORRUPT SOULS LOLOLOL. WE have Clavicus who from smug trololo asshat god (making pacts with mortals, screwing them over while staying true to the letter of the bargain, then going all :troll: while they went :rage: ) also began to show interest in claiming souls and so on.

:decline:

Akatosh has naked chicks AND he is a dragon. Beat that.

...Oh, I get it. Dibella also has naked bros in her temples.
:smug:
Am I going in the right direction here?

Don't be ashamed.

I'm done expanding & checking out your posts as you demonstrate nothing but moronic blabber, but since this was already quoted by DraQ:

Oh, boy, you don't even know what you don't know. Brace yourself for you are in for a surprise:

Todd Howard said:
The story itself deals with the death of the emperor and a demonic invasion into this world from "Oblivion." Oblivion, in the Elder Scrolls world, is essentially hell . It's another plane of existence where the evil gods live . So the game takes place in both Tamriel, the land of men and elves, and Oblivion, the land of demons.
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/theelder ... 11720.html

Suck it up, bitch! That's what Todd said and that's exactly how it is presented in the game itself. It doesn't matter that it's Dagon's own realm because neither the devs or the game makes any distinction any longer.

R00fles!
