Been playing a cannon/bot engineer as my first char, also saving up EQ for other chars (that stash is WAY too small). Got stuck trying to find Borris the enchanter because I want to try and extend the usability of my Dwarfking set (lifesteal baby) with stat upgrades in Act 1 NG+.

So I decided to try a pistolero Outlander which was great fun until my incessant point dumping into Dex stat unlocked some pieces of gear found by my Eng and basically broke the game.

He's in Act 2 and shit basically explodes all around him anywhere he goes.

I just got this, and whipped through a playthrough as an Outlander. It was pretty fun. There's a good amount of variation possible in how you build each class, and having the higher difficulties available from the beginning makes it something resembling challenging on a first playthrough.

The fact that you can frequently get the best items in the game for cheap from the gambler guy seems to be a pretty big design oversight though.

This is definitely a game where twinking out new characters can unbalance everything. It seems like it's virtually a requirement for elite, though, on some characters. Still forging ahead on my newbie berserker on Elite act 2.

So what's a good Outlander build on Veteran hardcore? I just hit level 9 and having a blast with the shotgun

I think I'll give this a rest until a larger stash gets patched/modded in. I play these games for loot and can't deal with juggling a ton of mules to keep up with all the uniques/set items I'm coming across.

I used shotguns for large groups but am now letting cursed daggers quickly poison them, almost as good as hailstorm for trash mobs, although maxed venomous hail should do pretty much the same thing. Right now using VH for bosses, does a nice chunk of damage after putting CD on them. I've ignored everything but CD and VH in Warfare. Got some points in rapid fire, but should have ignored it. For passives in Warfare, all are pretty good choices.

In Lore, 5 points for glaive throw is apparently enough. Tangling shot seemed useless, glaive sweep too. Sandstorm is pretty big on phys damage and I used it a lot in Artificer dungeon. Bramble wall puts a wall between you and the mobs, but can be destroyed by hits, and also your skills, some of them anyway, don't work through it, not sure you can shoot over it either, so useless. Burning leap is great, and picked up flaming glaives - but haven't tried it yet, but it should be good-ish. For passives in Lore I've been raising dodge, although I have no idea if it goes off or not or if my AC is keeping me safe. Mostly chugging potions for poison now. Poison burst, dunno, I've raised it and it goes off, but doesn't seem to be doing much. Share the wealth is good I guess.

In Sigil I just picked up stone pact and shadow mantle. Everything else seems to be shit. For passives, just master of elements for massive poison damage, and better fire damage. Well it does all elements but poison mainly, and there are just poison and fire skills.

For stats, I've dumped str pretty much and vit. I've done a 2:1 ratio of dex and focus because although this guy was gonna be the focus glaive guy, I've used shootans with crits alot.

EDIT: ok going after the witch now in some graveyard and gave flaming glaive a test. Eh, it hits everything but the mobs I want it to most of the time. Good if you're surrounded maybe, but I've got burning leap for that. Well shit.

EDIT2: HOW FUCKING MANY FLOORS ARE THERE IN VORAX TOWER THE SAME FUCKING REPETITIVE FLOORS WITH THE SAME FUCKING TRASH MOBS FUCK YOU.

EDIT3: gathering robo parts all over the place FOR THIS SHIT? YEAH OK.

i found this game's skills to be so bad to even distract me from the loot hunt.
dull, boring, often useless. almost all the time is spent with the standard attack and some good/ungodly passive effect.

Legit complaint. There isn't much interaction between the various skills and you usually just lean on one or two actives.

For a clicky-clicky boom boom game it's not half bad. Much better than Diablo 3 at any rate.

My only real complaint is with the targeting the game uses. For some reason, sometimes when I get attacked by a giant mob, when I try to run away I can't because the cursor just keeps making the attack sign and instead of running out my character instead just stands there and continues attacking. Think it's some kinda auto-targeting thing. Got me killed twice so far.

You can use the tilde (~) key to move and ignore attacking.

Play an embermage, some of their later skills are pretty cool.

Ah, nice. Thanks!

(also, I would brofist you, but my brofist button randomly disappeared and I still don't know why.)

This, along with the poor loot put me off the original Torchlight fairly quickly. They haven't fixed the targeting properly but it's not intolerable either, and the loot hunt is much better (imho) this time around.

Yes, there's been at least 2 patches (last one earlier today).

Since the latest patch, this game lags on my netbook. This sucks. Used to run perfectly.

Not happy with any of the unique rank outfits I found for my embermage, that made me look like Protos, Cybermen or Tau, I settled on a level 1ish chest piece. Rest is a mix of a little higher up stuff, but it leaves me with an AC of 130 or so. Blightbogs is slaughtering me. BUT ATLEAST I LOOK GOOD. :(

Wow, Act 3 is quite a step up in difficulty from Act 3. Chugging through health pots like a madman. Doesn't help that my armor drops are so crap I'm still wearing some pieces I got in Act 1.

The ~ key tip is a lifesaver man, especially on a harcore character.
I find that having a summon skeleton 1 save your ass by distracting enough.

Not a fan of enclosed spaces for boss fights though

Gamble - your chances of scoring a decent piece of kit that way are very (too?) good. Also, you can try socketing gear you have that's worth keeping (2 gems of same or higher level + item will add 1 or 2 slots) and add embers that add armor or reflect damage or restore health.

The problem is I'm using my gold up as I get it at this point. Keep having to buy potions with it.
