It would have been awesome to ultimately defeat the Guardian by having to trek around and collect artifacts or elicit help from people from these other worlds, but eh.... can always dream about what could have been I guess.

You mean Ultima Underworld 2? While not quite being the same plot as you mentioned, it requires you to travel into the various worlds conquered by the Guardian.

Thankfully, Ultima IX was a bit more bearable from having not seen the ending of Ultima 8. That would have really pissed me off...I think it was all about having a ThreeDee super awesome engine for the big finale of the Ultima series. And make it nice and friendly for the freshies. It didn't work out as planned...

"What is an Avatar??"

Thankfully, awesome questions like this, and more, were stripped away with the dialogue and content patch.

I rather just watch the ending on youtube or off the disc than play through ultima 9.

Didn't realize this! I played through Underworld 1 but never finished Underworld 2.

You didn't realize that the game called Ultima Underworld 2: Labirynth of Worlds is about travelling to other worlds?

Much to my embarrassment, yes I fully admit this. I never actually finished Underworld 2. I do remember going to different areas.. I remember a snow/ice area but yeah, it was many moons ago that I played that. Still, I would have liked to see that same sort of theme/concept carried over to one of the main Ultima games. It would have been cool to do that same thing in U9.

Funny story about Underworld 1. The 486 DX2-66 I had at the time had one of those fancy new (for the time) Vesa Local Bus video cards. For whatever reason, some of the games of that time (like 92'/93') had this weird bug where the color black would sometimes show as pink and basically it made the game look ugly as hell although I think it was technically playable. It was the first game where I had to actually obtain a patch from the maker of the game which thankfully fixed the goofy colors! I did some searching on Google and can't find reference to it but it was a really annoying graphical quirk at the time for the hardware I had. Not sure if anyone else ran into that as well.
