Section III. Skills
Detailed explanations.
Physician skill will require water, bandages, splints, etc to treat differing wounds. Using the Blood-Staunching Ritual before attempting treatment may enhance the effects.

try making stuff (clubs, torches, staffs, javelins, cups, bowls....) before you go trading and leave your important stuff on a piece of fence before you start to trade. whenever you enter a new village for the first time, search the entire village first for stuff lying around that you can either use or trade, then check out the shops and the people themselves for things you need.
With the extra mobility I get (sometimes well over 100%) from the skis, it's the best time to use to discover the land and find other villages: there is no need to carry water as you "drink" the snow. No minimal sheltar to build as it does not rain. Just cut a log or slender trees and sleep by the fire with your animal protectors. Hunt or fish through a hole in ice for food and kill the red guys for passtime, then trade in villages.
I found you can use rowan and werm berries in cooking - vegie soup, etc. - but you can't eat them directly. All mushrooms are edible after boiling except the lomboks. Lomboks can, however, be used for trading and sacrifices. Very useful.

SKILLS
Agriculture - Preparing the soil and planting crops.
Physician - Tending fresh wounds to quicken healing.
Cookery - Preparing food, which helps it to last longer.
Ritual - Ask the gods for help or thank them.
Survival - Starting fires, gathering branches, and building shelters.
Timbercraft - Chopping down trees and processing the wood into either wood blocks or logs for building houses.
Fishing - One of the most accessible food sources.
Weatherlore - Predicts the weather.
Foraging - Finding wild, edible plants, fruits, and mushrooms.
Hideworking - Removing and preserving animal skins.
Tracking - Finding and following footprints.
Woodcarving - Engraving on wood, hopefully to make them more valuable for trade.
Climbing - Enables one to observe surroundings from trees and to trek through mountainous terrain.
Skiing - Enables faster movement across snow with the use of skis and ski poles.
Swimming - Enables movement across bodies of water.
Agriculture:
The ability to prepare fields and grow crops:
Agriculture is a three-part task: preparing the soil, planting / sowing seeds, harvesting the crops.
Soil preparation requires you to fertilize the land using a burn-over procedure. In UrW this can be achieved by building a fire of any size, waiting for it burn out and finally prepare the soil with a shovel over the remainders of the fire, equivalent of plowing a field.
The actual planting/sowing can be done on the prepared soil after the ground has cooled down (the remainders of fire have disappeared), and it needs the appropriate plants or seeds in the inventory.
Fields that are growing need no further tending. All there is left is to wait for the crops to mature before harvesting. A high percentage in agriculture shortens the time needed to prepare the soil and sow seeds. It also affects the crop yield, meaning a higher skill in agriculture generally result in a bigger harvest.

MOST USEFUL WEAPONS:
Heavier weapon means bigger damage but less accuracy.
Attack types have body parts that they are most effective on. Pointing gives most effect on torso or head, edge on limbs or neck and blunting on head. Best weapons are:
-battlesword (huge damage but least accurate weapon, heavy, hard to find, expansive)
-mace (good damage and accuracy, clubs skill is easy to learn and everyone have it, common to find)
-handaxe (very good damage and accuracy, very useful, not hard to find but you must learn axes from start)
-hunting knife (good damage for knife, causes bleeding wounds often but not easy to find)
-klaumois spear (very good damage, accurate with good skill, hard to find)
-heavy crossbow (huge damage, a lucky hit can kill anything, most accurate of ranged weapons, but with low skill almost useless. If you want it,attack foregin traders, 90% that one will have it)

HUNTING TRAPS
Small traps will actually "summon" small animals to the area, so they do have a use -- furs. Setting a wide array of loop snares all over the world will cause you to have so many hare furs you won't know what to do with them. Remember, however, that hares cannot be baited, so you'll need to use a trap fence with loop snares.
Rip a part of your only clothes into a simple cord and make a small trap and use one ( precious ) meat or fish for it. This will give you something to work into clothes with some luck in a few days. You'll also get meat and the animal will be injured, more or less, from the trap, reducing possible injuries from killing it.
But if you don't want to hunt (and have a shovel) dig a pit, put stakes into it (sharpened, yes... ) use a piece of meat or fish (even spoiled) and go rest. Or make some traps.
The Käpäläläuta fox trap also summons foxes, so is an excellent passive alternative to using the Summon a Fox ritual. Of course, foxes won't wander into the trap unless it's baited.
X O X
An X marks a covered, unbaited trap pit. The central O marks a covered, baited trap pit. Animals see the bait and run for it, only to land in one of the pits surrounding it.
Yes, soups and drinks last forever. This includes milk. Temperature affects all other foods, except those in a cellar (which decay at a particular rate), and those packed on animals. The line where food stops decaying altogether is slightly below the freezing line on the thermometer (next to the weather display), and i think this applies for cellars too. Some foods are definitely more durable than others, with smoked meat in between salted and dried.

QUESTIONS
how do i leash an animal?
- You have to [a]pply a rope to an animal, it won't work if the animal is hostile or if it is owned by the villagers.
What seasons can you dry meat?
- Winter is best for drying meat i believe sometimes even up till late spring you can dry the meat, if you are in the middle of drying and it gets to summer it will still dry ok.
---------------------
---------------------
USING A SHIELD:
Wield a sword or other weapon in your main hand, then wield a shield after. You can also wield them in the opposite order if you use the [x] key to swap the weapons (at least I think it's the x key... been a while since I played). Whenever you are attacked by someone wielding a weapon (you can only block weapons, not animal attacks), use the lock defence. You will automatically try to either parry the attack or block the attack with your shield -- the game mentions that you raise your main weapon to block with, but if you fail the block, it's usually your shield that is knocked away, not your sword (or whatever else you're using).

Mushrooms
Boletus = Edible Solmop = Nice Slight Poisoning
Ciame = Moderate Nausea Moaha = Risky Weakness Selimir = Risky Weakness
Laurm = Deadly Poisoning Lombok = Deadly Poisoning Monnog = Deadly Poisoning
Berries
Blueberries = Edible Raspberries = Edible Rowan Berries = Edible Strawberries = Edible
Tuomi Berries = Risky Weakness Werm Berries = Risky Weakness
Notes ~ Here is a chart showing every mushroom and berry in URW, and their effects when eaten raw. All Mushrooms and Berries are Edible when cooked.

STORING STUFF:
That guy had a lot of stuff on him. Where can I safely store all that?
The safest place to store equipment is on a fence tile. NPC's will cross a fence tile (and steal the stuff on it) only when they're running away or attacking, so chances are that your equipment are quite safe. Or, once you have built yourself a cottage, a warehouse or a sauna, you can store it inside and build a fence surrounding it or just blocking the entrance.
---------------------
---------------------
MAKING CLOTHES:
There are two types of clothes you can make: fur clothes and leather clothes. You'll get fur from most of the animals so leather is kinda rare (unless you buy and skin cows, pigs and bulls).
---------------------
---------------------
MAKING A FENCE:
When you have chopped down some slender tree trunks (Alt+f) just press Shift+m then go onto wooden items and I believe that wooden stakes are number 3 anyway you will see it, 1 slender tree trunk makes 7 wooden stakes, and 1 fence uses 5 wooden stakes.
In case you have to make a lot wooden stakes, you can repeat the process easily by hitting "4"
---------------------
---------------------
TAMING WILD ANIMALS:
You can catch any animal that is asleep by leashing it. To do so, zoom in, face north, dig a hole, cover it, bait it, zoom out. Then wait a few days / weeks. Come back to the same place at night, face north, zoom in, and if an animal has fallen in and is asleep you can leash it if you do it first thing before it can wake up. This is how you can capture bears, lynxs, etc.
---------------------
---------------------
TRADING:
Try to pick (use ","-key) something you want. Then you should go to trading mode and press "A"-key until you get satisfying offer. Unfortunately, there's no way to offer a single item. Many people have quirky strategies for that, like dropping all of the (unequipped) items outside of town that you don't want to sell, so that any offers you get in town are just for items that you do want to sell.
