If anyone is currently playing the US version of the witcher, can you post comments about it? Im curious how much it is censored and if the different versions really make much a difference. Im guessing it does not.

I have not decided yet to buy the game although I probably will, Im curious if its worth it to by the UK version instead and have it shipped.

When I eventually get it, I'm getting the UK version. There's no reason to have the original vision shattered*.

*miss 3D video game nudity

I was just about to laugh and say 'How can Americans find nipples so offensive when films like Saw IV are released every year'.... then I remembered Janet Jackson at the Super Bowl. Lulz.

ROFL. That is beyond retarded. So they just cut off the nipples and leave the breasts be? How fucking dumb are these people?

Wow, that is pretty stupid.

I agree I have said a long time it is very bizarre that people get so upset about nudity but are ok with people being killed in nasty ways. Seems like that should be worse to see for a kid.

The move "Saw" is an R rated move however, and wouldnt be shown on regular TV, but in movie theaters and pay channels. You can however regular TV channels nationwide that show people's heads blown of.

I don't get it, never have.

Anyway, not sure its enough difference for me to pay for the UK version to be shipped though.

Why nudity must be related to dirtiness, porn and masturbation? Maybe that's why you americans must be "protected".

Well, in fairness, the nudity in question is on collectible cards obtained after fucking make-believe girls. Which is a little . . . tawdry.

There is a difference between the UK version and the US version. There have been much debate over this, both on rpgwatch's forums and on other game forums. The main difference is that the sex cards are cut from the US versions. I think you can find 1-2 of these pictures in a thread here at the codex :?: I also think that the nipples are covered in the Atari US version of The Witcher. The sex cards is something you get if you choose to take a prostitue or romance interests to bed.

My take on this is similar to what I wrote on Kotaku in a discussion about the Manhunt 2 banning: If a game recieved a 17+ rating or an 18+ rating, it shouldn't really be cut, especially since in the US, you have to be at least 17 years old to buy Mature rated games which is a policy most retail stores in the US have.

As for the whole sex & nudity thing you really see the same attitudes towards this in some South European countries e.g. most South European countries are at par with the US when it comes to the view on the sex & nudity issues while most Northern European countries and the Scandinavian countries have a somewhat more relaxed view on the sex & nudity issues than both the US and most South European countries have.

One NPC, two monsters and the sex cards have been edited.
Click here for the uncensored version of the NPC.
One of the edited monsters is a female vampire called Bruxa. Click here for the concept art.
A nice fight against lots of Bruxas, click here, then watch the Quest String video.

Worst thing about UK version is subtitles saying "arse" and voiceover saying "ass".

How is the manual? Is it quite detailed or kind of simplisitic? Anything interesting come in the box? I assume the medallion only comes in the collector's edition.

From what I am seeing here, I will just buy the US version and save the money on shipping. It's not enough to be a big deal to me. Thanks for the replies.

Actually i am pretty sure that both driad(s) and bruxa were fully dressed in the books. :)
Btw, bruxa is supposed to be very cute, i have no idea why they draw her that way in the game.

Hopefully there'll be a fan made patch that will reinsert the missing nipples etc.
Then Parents Against Porn In Games (PAPIG), along with Jack Thompson will sue Atari for having porn in video games.
While a bad thing i might sell a couple extra units of the witcher with all the publicity.

There has never been a cencored game in my country as far as I know. Of course noone would go to the trouble of cencoring a game for such a small country but still things are pretty free here. As for sex and nudity, everyday the TV is full of it.

As for the other South European countries, I can hardly believe that Italy is at par with the US when it comes to those issues with shows were half-naked women try to find an item in a pool filled with colored balls with a man dressed as a snake grabbing and pulling trying to prevent them from finding it. :P

I can't speak about Spain, Portugal or Malta but if you count Turkey among the South European countries then they may have an even strickter additute towards nudity and sex than the US.

US version of the card image Bloodlust posted (3rd post) looks like she had bukkake over her breasts.

but if you count Turkey among the South European countries then they may have an even strickter additute towards nudity and sex than the US.

That depends on the product in question. If it's produced here, there's a good chance of censorship, especially if it contains explicit sex. Nudity is usually ok. With either case, it will get cut on TV and at worst, only select cinemas will show it, but most of the time, you will still be able to see it uncensored in a cinema or on a DVD release. As for imported products, there's almost no censorship at all, again with the exception of TV, but for some unspoken reason, TVs has started to adopt the US nonsense as well, censoring only nipples. However, they somehow forget to enforce this whenever some native celebrity has an accident where her boobs pop out of a loose dress.

Funnily, kind of material that's censored most is of political nature, rather than sex and nudity.

I don't get either.

It's one of the great mysteries of the world I think.
