Then the game should not have introduced choices or the hunger and time mechanic and claimed that it all mattered when it clearly didn't.
It's like saying that Fallout 2 should not have introduced Hubologist shuttle if you couldn't fly it.
Clearly, some things weren't finished. As is the case in all games. How's that a negative thing is beyond me. It didn't negatively affect the gameplay.

This VN doesn't even have paths or different endings, something almost every other VN has and is regarded as industry standard. Buyers were tricked into paying for a one common path and a a few side stories.

You weren't tricked into anything, there's a torrent version for you to check out before making the purchase.

And one storyline without multiple endings is significantly better than no storylines for almost two decades. It's a complete work of fiction in the end. A VTM fan has no right to be picky.

Standalone expansion:

You’re a nobody. An outcast in your own vampiric sect. A political prisoner of no particular value. An immigrant who never found her roots in a city of immigrants. A chainsmoker whose favorite pastime is staring blankly at the streets through the windows of a fast food joint at 4AM. The sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach tells you that you’re doomed, and distorted voices from the shadows seem to agree. The curse of your clan makes interacting with everyday technology difficult. Dissociation is your natural state.

But when New York’s Anarch leader meets a gruesome end, out of all the bloodsuckers in the metropolis, you’re the one picked to investigate. Make no mistake: this is obviously a trap, yet another move in the horrible game of Jyhad, the eternal struggle for power between warring vampire generations. But you’re Lasombra, and if there’s one thing you know, it’s this: if the Ventrue Prince and her followers underestimate you, they’re going to deeply regret it.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Shadows of New York is a visual novel set in the rich universe of Vampire: The Masquerade. It acts as a stand-alone expansion and a companion piece to our previous title, Coteries of New York. While Coteries was a general introduction to the world depicted in the 5th Edition of the hit tabletop role-playing game, Shadows presents a more personal and unique tale.

  • A visual novel tackling themes of personal and political horror, suitable for both Vampire: The Masquerade veterans, and fans of narrative-driven games who are newcomers to the setting.
  • A stand-alone expansion to Coteries of New York. See the familiar metropolis through entirely different eyes. Expect new characters, new locations and a fresh original soundtrack.
  • Play as a member of the Lasombra clan. Formerly vicious foes of the Camarilla, the Magisters decided to search for safety in the ranks of their former enemies. Master the shadows and communicate with the inhabitants of the Other Side, but beware – Oblivion is always lurking out there, ready to devour you whole.
  • Explore the streets of the Big Apple. While you search for ways to satiate your bloodthirst, catch glimpses of various fascinating vignettes and forge connections with the eccentric inhabitants of the city. One playthrough won’t be enough to see it all.
  • Shape your mind, shape your fate. You used to avoid defining yourself and tried to stay neutral, but given your situation, you can no longer afford to do so. The choices you make will alter the way you think, and your thinking will alter the paths you take.
If it’s called Vampire: The Masquerade, does that mean you have something in common with World of Darkness, Bloodlines 2, Redemption, the cult tabletop RPG system, or...?
Yes. Shadows of New York is set in the same shared universe, but offers stand-alone experiences and stories. You may spot some connections with the other titles, but Shadows is not a sequel to any existing products. The World of Darkness is a media franchise and shared universe, shaped by various creators and participants, meaning: all stand-alone stories play into a greater whole. Berlin falling to the Anarchs during an official LARP, the Lasombra clan joining forces with the Camarilla in the Vampire: The Masquerade - Chicago By Night 5th Edition sourcebook, Sophie Langley’s plot to take control of New York in Coteries of New York – all of these events subtly influence and interact with each other.

Do I need to play Coteries of New York to understand and enjoy the story of Shadows of New York?
Not at all. Shadows of New York is a stand-alone expansion to Coteries of New York, which means it shares the New York City setting and a large part of the supporting cast with our previous title, but is designed to offer a different experience. Coteries served as an introduction to the basics of Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition – it was focused on showcasing different vampire Clans and core concepts of the setting through the point of view of a newly-fledged vampire, a character who did have a defined backstory, but by and large meant to serve as a player avatar.

Shadows of New York is a more personal story, told from the perspective of a well-defined character who’s already integrated into the Kindred society and has a developed inner monologue of her own (which means you influence her personality instead of shaping it). Those who are familiar with Coteries will already know a large part of the cast and catch some references that would otherwise go unnoticed, but those who decide to start with Shadows and get back to Coteries later should be able to enjoy both experiences just as much as they would if they played them in their release order. The two stories are essentially separate, different both tonally and thematically.

Which platforms will Shadows of New York be available on? Will there be a simultaneous release date?
Shadows of New York will launch simultaneously on PC (Windows/Mac OS/Linux), PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch in 2020.

Does the game support controllers?
Yes. You’ll be able to play both with mouse and keyboard, as well as with a controller.

Pushed through 2 hours of this and then just uninstalled it, no regret. Story is unoriginal (it actually starts the very same way Bloodlines does, but not nearly as well executed), dialogue is hentai visual novel tier and character are unremarkable.

Also, dialogue choices are ambiguous and they're there just for keeping appearances, there is no choice&consequences. It's a bare-bone visual novel with literally no game play-gimmick to diversify things up. If you neglect everything else and base your success on building a good story & atmosphere and you don't even achieve that, I don't really know what more to this game there is.

Kinda surprised this wreck managed to get enough sells in order to grant it a standalone DLC.

Thats just bullshit.
I just reloaded the Nos companion ending 3 times and it has 3 outcomes.
1. Thinblood gets executed. DiAngelo changes name.
2. Thinblood Primogen dead. Valerie bonus points. Thinblood lives.
3. Escape fails. Thinblood dead. DiAngelo changes name. Sherif malus points.
Now I dont know if and how much those relationships matter later but they exist and are tracked.
Im fairly sure the LarsonPissedOff matter later.

... I take back what I said ...

This is a garbage CYOA! NOTHING you do matters, you are choosing nothing! Its a picture book where you choose the words. Cant even flip through the whole fucking book in a run. Only have limited time for 2.5 out of 4 companions.

Companion loyality does NOTHING, they appear only once outside their stories, when Kaiser saves you - they do nothing - just there for the picture.

Terrible UI, the dialogue is presented sentence by sentence, which you have to click through or mash Enter but if you mash enter, it selects the 1st response when there is something to respond to. So you ahve to click like a retard. Or install SpeedAutoClicker... <- gameplay!

Picking a different clan, changes the intro vingette - which is meaningless lol!

You are paying 13 bucks for the pictures, of dubious style and quality imo - and the story.
The main story is SHIT.
Spoilers: the big secret is that the anarch bigboss is blood bound to the prince (so fucking what! its a fucking boon!) and this is supposed to cause a rEvOlUtIoN!!!1 where our "benefactor", Sophie, profits somehow.
You know:
1. rEvOlUtIoN
2. ...
3. PROFIT!!!11
If this is not retarded enough, your secret sire (who doesnt matter...) is doing a Harpy (the desu ex machina) a favor, so we, the fledling, can do legwork (which is retarded...) for Sophie, to cause the revolution.
In the end, the (former?) Harpy commands a Scourge to kill Sophie, a toreador primogen of New York... Why? I dont know.
Now, the legwork is retarded because your main quest was to arrange a secret meeting between Sophie and a different anarch boss. But in the end Sophie just walks into his domain/billard bar... where we get ?ambushed? by specops. Why the meeting?
Just to tell him that the big anarch boss is blood bound.......................................................................................

And you play a nigger, a faggot or a lesbian! Which also doenst matter lol - replayability 0 (if you dont count going through the other 1.5 companion stories that are time limited)!

A better vamp CYOA that I havent played? No.
But Choice of a Vampire is better, by a mile. Its not VtM but its also not retarded and has choices...

I just read your comment that this is not a CYOA (and we cannot rate it as such) but a Visual Novel ....but it is also a shit VN...

Honest to God, I wish I didnt play this. It just made me angry. It creates a supposed mystery and a plot - and all of it is either retarded or desu ex without ANY explanation.
It creates companion quests where the stuff you click increases/decreases loyalty - and NONE of it matters.
And it made my finger hurt before I installed an auto clicker.
They literally owe me money for sufferint though this.

How far in were you?

Problems with Choice of Vampire:
- it's exciting at first, but in chapter 2 it starts going nowhere, becomes completely boring
Oh, and this little problem:
- Your choice doesn't matter, because whatever you choose, you will get an absolutely random bullshit result that in no way you could've predicted, and it's a fail state, you're dead, start from the beginning.

Compared to that, Coteries of New York are a Hideo Kojima level of game design.

What's up with all these WoD visual novel/text adventure games? Apparently they think this is a "low barrier to entry": https://venturebeat.com/2020/08/02/...ure-of-tabletop-rpgs-is-increasingly-digital/

“So for those who’ve joined us through LA or Seattle By Night, Bloodlines 2 transmedia work like Tender or Vein Pursuit, or V5 Discord roleplaying servers,” Greaney said, “we work across the product portfolio, marketing and individual products to ensure there’s a fun experience of discovery and peeling back the layers of secrets in WoD and in that process of discovery a chance to join the World of Darkness community.

“And that’s what is ultimately important to us — that we can help customers become fans of our franchises rather than directing them to a specific medium. If you’ve watched Jason every season over the past few years or joined the Tender ARG (Alternate Reality Game) or played through Coteries of New York or spend time discussing WoD5 (World of Darkness fifth edition) lore online — but have never filled in a character sheet and sat down at a table for a chronicle, you’re just as much a Vampire: The Masquerade fan as anybody else and we have no strategic aim to make you experience the franchise in a specific way.”

Looking ahead, World of Darkness is dedicated to creating “more low barrier to entry video games” like Coteries of New York and other visual novel experiences. Additionally, we can expect more alternate reality games like Tender.

“Expect to be able to experience World of Darkness at the table, with a controller, in your earbuds and with your TV remote,” Greaney concluded. “We want to make discovery as seamless as possible, whether that is discovery of lore, fan content, products, or communities relevant to the experience the player is driving. So, whether you’re a new fan eager to discover the breadth of our story world or a long-time fan going deep, our aim is to enable that seamlessly without taking you out of your WoD experience.

Makes it clearer as to why devs are apparently including the original game in the upcoming Humble Choice.
https://strefainwestorow.pl/wiadomo...s-of-new-york-pojawi-sie-w-abonamencie-humble

Some Potato should probably give it a closer read, but according to translation:

"We are very happy that Koterie will be available on the Humble Choice platform. This is a good moment to promote our game, the more that we are already on the last straight preparation for the premiere of the next title in this series, i.e. Shadows of New York. The game will go on sale in the PC and console versions on September 10", says Michał Mielcarek, President of Draw Distance.

"Humble Choice is one of the most popular gaming subscription services in the world, participation in it is associated with a noticeable increase in the number of owners of a given game on Steam. Within one month, the title's popularity grows significantly and attracts up to several hundred thousand users. We hope for synergy with the premiere of Shadows of New York", he adds.

Coteries of New York will be available as a subscription from September 4 until October 2 this year. Pursuant to the provisions of the agreement, the company will receive a one-off remuneration for the right to place the game on the platform.
