How many of these 'original Wastelanders' bailed on the project early on ?
Brother None said:We'll keep trying but just can't make any promises at this stage. If it does end up happening and backers get 4 novellas and a novel instead of 3 novellas, so much the better.
Michael was involved I believe even before the Kickstarter in their early work and pitch, and he was involved during the early design and story layout (note the "AZ"/"LA" split on the chalkboard, the cults) and worked on at least one area that I know of.
Brother None said:Liz did a very expansive document on one of the areas. Ken St. Andre similarly did level design. I'd have to check what Alan's contributions were since I don't know for sure but I would guess similar, they all contributed to the first level design passes of varying locations in the game.
Brother None said:I already explained each of those original devs were involved early in the process but no, none of them were involved for the long haul, nor was that really the plan. Same is true for Chris Avellone, you may remember, who worked for us during pre-production but has not been involved (other than occasional playthroughs for feedback) since. There's no real mystery there, each guy (or girl) we mentioned worked during the pre-production phase, which is when their talents and contributions were best used to help shape the game.
Why we were quiet on the novellas for so long should now be obvious; there were problems with the planned ones and we wanted to get replacements solidified and in place before talking about it. That's pretty clearcut, just announcing problems with no replacements would have made no one happy. This is really unfortunate, no mistaking, but we did everything we could to still make them happen and eventually to replace them. We're dedicated to hitting every reward but sometimes things just aren't in your own hands because of third parties. I really don't see who is going to gain from playing the blame game there, though, it didn't (or at least hasn't so far) happened, and we have no direct control over that. Maybe if things change.
Nice bait and switch.
How unfortunate that the old-timers' ideas were terrible, including Avellone's. But not surprising.
