What could Bethesda do to make Fallout 3 a worthy sequel?

An easy point to argue, when it is not your money you are talking about. Bethesda didn't kill, maim or extort anyone for its financial success, they made certain business decisions that angered a bunch of fanboys. I wonder how they can sleep at night.

They probably are living pretty comfortably, but they most certainly aren't even in the wealth area of say....electrical engineers, business attorneys, partners in large law firms, or specialty practitioners.

Then again, they aren't electrical engineers, business attorneys, partners in law firms, or specialty practitioners. They are "average employees", and many in that category wouldn't at all mind "living pretty comfortably", and having a good chance of continuing to do so, especially in a field where company buy-outs and merges often result in unemployment for the "average employee".

Plus they also get to do something they enjoy (making games).

Howewver, when they purchase an IP, its important to at least keep some core elemnts of thay IP, lest to decrease goodwill among the IP's fanbase.

Well, best Beth could do is to hire all the people that were responcible for F1-2, give them lots of money, lots of free time... and GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM THEM untill the game is ready.
Todd, in particular, should not be allowed near the office where F3 team is... and by 'near' I mean 'distance of a steady headshot with a 12.7 mm sniper rifle'. And if he does, headshot MUST be provided.
This is true.
Even if they had the inclination, they don't have there wherewithall.

Giving Todd the reins to the high water mark or cRPGs is like letting Michael Jackson babysit your kids.

First, what nik2008ofs said. Second, that might be true for the individual but it certainly doesn't count for a company. The very basis of a company, any company, is to make a profit. If they're not making a profit they're not doing their jobs. It's actually writen down in most (all?) (western) countires law that a company should make a profit so their shareholders can be paid their dividends.

This leads us to Fallout 3 and why no one should be surprised at the direction they're taking the franchise and why there's no chance in hell Bethesda could ever hope to redeem themselves when it comes to Fallout 3. Simplt put, there's no incentive. Looking at ther potential market as a whole the vocal Fallout fans (that'd be us and NMA) are in the minority. Their Morrowind/Oblivion fanbase on the other hand is a whole lot larger. What does this tell us? That you can trust Bethesda to cater to their market, i e the hordes of Oblivion drones. Anyone with a brain can figure this out, which also makes the counter-arguement of "but you don't KNOW that Bethesda will make Fallout 3 the same as Oblivion, HAVE YOU PLAYED IT!?" as inane as the person posting it. In short, there's no hope and speculating about what could make Fallout 3 not be a piece of shit (that I'll play no doubt) useless in the extreme.

Don't forget some anti-tank mines. Todd isn't something that can be stoped by a mere .50cal
