What game are you wasting time on?

Wyrmlord is currently my Space Station 13 AI. WHO IS IT :x
Haha, shame I didn't think of that one and went AI. What servers is everyone on? I've gotten used to the /tg/ 13 station layout on Nox 13 and Yogcast.
I pretty much only play on Gibbed, I find it has the best mix of avoiding SERIOUSLY ROLEPLAYING NOFUN SPACEMANS GAME and horrifying furry rape orgies. I maybe wouldn't recommend moving over to it now; we're moving to an absolutely fantastic-looking new map in a couple of weeks, so you'd waste time learning the current layout.
I think the roleplaying should be a lot more common actually. For example, the game would be a lot more fun if people FUCKING WENT TO THE CHEF AND ORDERED SOMETHING TO EAT.

Imagine how fun it would be to have the chef speak over intercom about his daily menu and then having 1 assistant pick up orders and deliver foods.

Or people once in a while going to the mess hall, ordering a drink and chatting instead of using their down time to hunt for spacesuits and oxygen tanks for the inevitable destruction that their metagaming tells them will happen.

Or people STAYING THE FUCK OUT OF ATMOSPHERICS. You are the Chief engineer, Captain, AI? Stay the fuck out of Atmospherics and stop preemptively making the pipe system more hack-proof. Trust the professionals in atmos to do their job.

Speaking about atmospherics, some games it seems everyone hates me. If a room has a yellow air alert (fully breathable), I usually like to just drop in and check things out, chat up with people and generally act suspicious. The tendency is that if anyone sees an engineer or atmos doing their job like ever they are chased out with a laser gun and crowbar. The general attitude is that anything less than plasma concentration of 80% or the emptiness of space sucking the light fixtures out of the room doesn't require anyone to help. And at that point the AI just comes in and shutters everything and the shuttle is called.

People basically do so much metagaming without even realizing. The best part of the game for me are the small moments when you interact with others. Playing as roboticist and messaging the miner if he will have any metal coming, purely for no reason. Or walking around as atmos and chatting up with people about how they intend to blow out their rooms. Sometimes you can go a full round with no one talking to you or asking for your help. You play as a botanist and not a single order comes up for anything. You play as roboticist and no engineer or miner comes up and asks for anything and no one brings corpses to you. You play as assistant and everyone kicks you away. I really should play as that super social chef, BE THE CHANGE.

See you on Gibbed I guess though, it will be hell learning a new station layout. Weeks is too long to wait.

Playing Fallout 2 again after my last playtrough a few years ago. Good fucking god, I love the game but the beginning is so awful. The Temple of Trials, Aroyo, Klamath, the Toxic caves...you spend the first hours of the game almost exclusively fighting stupid scorpions, geckos and rats in boring caverns and tunnels

Definitely, but I think these things could better be played with incentives, not just vapid RP. That gets stale fast. I mostly play Chef - I prefer to avoid the more technical, spergy stuff, and I love the amount of fuckery you can get up to - and it annoys me that there's just no reason to go to the bar unless you want to eat fascinating things and get drunk. Like, I want people to have an incentive to eat my lovely cheesecake and discover the Swedium icing too late, to their horror. I want to be traitor and deviously serve Syndicate Sauce pizza throughout the station. As it is, my role is much relegated to entertaining those who want to be entertained.

I honestly think gibbed frowns on most of the problems you describe. We don't like metagaming, as a rule; AIs who immediately zone in on and track any signs of traitors and changelings get booed out, because it's being a dick. It doesn't work perfectly, people like Humble Bee still aren't banned for some fucking reason, but I think on the whole that it does.

Occasionally, you do need to push it, but if you push your gimmick interestingly enough, it works. I had a really boring Chef round earlier, so I took a trip around the station, found some weird cheese, a creepy relic and a skull, and put out a ridiculous horror gimmick about eating yourself to DEATH etc. The admin played along and filled the kitchen with "blair sandwich projects" and "killed cheese sandwiches". It was great! Sometimes, yeah, you need to make your own fun; but in doing that, you contribute to a whole, you contribute to a huge group of people dedicated to making sure that each other have a great time. A lot of things are left to the individual players to play up, and I don't think there's a single role that can't do that; Engineers are seen as a role that get their important shit out of the way in the first ten minutes, but they can do so much more! I've seen Engineers make extensions to the bar, built a jazz lounge at escape, build a state-of-the-art healthcare area adjacent to medical and genetics that ensure that nobody dies permanently or gets diseases again. Everyone can do imaginative, constructive things beyond what you expect.

It sometimes doesn't work, and it certainly does need refinement, but that's why Gibbed - at least - update this ten-year-old game every few days. We're all trying to make sure that we all have more fun. To me, at least, it makes for a great multiplayer environment.

Played and beat Binary Domain... that game is utterly retarded and just bad. I poked around to look at review scores after I finished it and saw scores like 8, which I thought was sort of funny since I had mentally given it around a 3/10. Some of the premises could have been interesting but were executed poorly. Then again, I guess shooters don't really set a very high bar for story.

Still tooling my way through Baldur's Gate in my BGT re-playthrough as a Cleric/Mage, though I've been tempted to also start a dual-wielding kensai to try kensai/thief cheese at the upper levels.

Exactly. By requesting something from 1 person, they probably have to request things from another and it snowballs. Or one good deed gets passed forward and everyone is affected by it. It's why playing again and again is so appealing and you get addicted fast, always new ways to experiment.

Regarding the Station for SS13, I play on Nox 13 and Yogcast only. The US Servers have just too much lag for me in Europe. Nox13 and Yogscast also have tons of admins and are "encouraging" the RP nicely without being too harsh IMHO.
Also because of the amount of Admins these Servers got, griefing isn't as big of a problem as on other Servers.

Right now I am playing HomeWorld (currently at mission 9 I think, it's truly an amazing game, and though getting used to the controls and the interface was kind of hard, now that I did it I am enjoying it a lot), Dawn of War (mission 4, as with HW, I love it), Jagged Alliance 2 1.13 (just starting, I am getting totally destroyed because I refuse to read the manual or search for tips, but whatever, I have this "sacred rule" of experimenting game mechanics for the first time during gameplay and not by reading stuff outside of the game... Homeworld was kind of an exception tho, I never had played anything like that game before so I had to go through the tutorial) and Halo 4 Spartan Ops with the 14 day code that came inside the box (I really love the fact they created new maps for the second part of Season 1, the shameless repetition from the first one was getting me really annoyed... now, if they replaced infinite lives for some kind of checkpoint/save/limited lives system and added skulls for maximum difficulty then it would be perfect).

Got a so-so graphic card. Now I am starting some old Codex favourite:

King Arthur the RP Wargame. Pretty nice so far.
Unreal World. Still. because man I powergame so hard the bugs appear, so have to slow down a bit to wait for patch.

Yeah what surprised me when I was in your country, was that there were nothing but very low end GPUs to be found, except a few ones which were obviously imported and at absolutely exhorbitant prices.

Yeah. High end GPUs are for specialized graphic designers. The number of rich players are not that big, so we generally got low-middle cards. I mean, for example, currently, most popular in that crowd is 1GB cards, and if you have money, buy the high ends of that range, not 2GB.

And if you are here to work, cafe internet PCs or the normal office stuffs lying around are simply the low end.

We are getting richer, but that's relative compared to before ( a huge leap , yo~). GDP per capita is around USD1500/head.

Yeah, I think cars are even worse, because they are heavily taxed, so they end up much more expensive than what Westerners have to pay, even with the lower salaries. Except the Ford brand because it's manufactured in the country, but then people don't want them because they think it's bad due to this.

I remember I saw no AMD CPUs at all.

My voyage in the murky brown shit waters of the decline continues.

Reinstalled Mass Effect 1. For some reason it decided to work pretty flawlessly on my win 7 box this time. Maybe it's the 1.02 patch.

Anyway. Wow. Shit sure did change more than I remembered from ME 1 to 2. Shit is positively huge even by BioWare standards. Also fucking elevators. And NPC's actually feel I dunno alive, compared to the nonexistant content in ME 2.
But then I'm reminded of the absolutely herpa derp story and lore. OH GOD MAKE IT STAP. AND THE RAILROADANS. I TELL NPC'S TO FUCK OFF AND THEY STILL GIVE ME QUESTS. I FORGOT. I TELL GROUPMATES TO FUCK OFF AND STILL THEY JOIN.

But it's good to see the customization that once existed. Oh also UGH THE COMBAT IS SO DULL. Granted you have more skills which is good but goddamn how can you use an essentially combat oriented engine and fail so hard. I again forgot how bad it was. Then again, the cover shootans in ME 1 feel a lot more natural than the BOXES EVERYWHAR of ME 2.

But alas, I must quit this before I'm once again reminded of the MAKO SHITCAN AND MOAR COMBAT AND MOAR STORY THAT IS SO SHIT IT POURS OUT OF FOUNTAINS. I don't know what that means. But it was interesting to see just how streamlined it got.

And yet the quest popped.

Started playing FTL but fuck that game has a nasty random working against you, can't get to sector 5 just yet.

Weapon combo of breaking shield with pew-pew cannons then lasering the hull (0 damage when shield is up, massive damage otherwise) works pretty well, up to and including the end boss.

Picked up Omerta. "Wasting time" is an appropriate term. Won't be sticking with this for long.

SCP-087-B - played it at midnight, with lights off and headphones crancked up.

It was the most terryfing experience while playing a video game for me (maybe S.T.A.L.K.E.R. SoC, Blair Witch: Rustin Parr and MAYBE Amnesia: Dark Descent would compare). I was scared that something would come to me IRL while playing this (my room was dark - lights off) - so I checked every 15 seconds or so if my room is ok. Gee, how can I act so unrational? Here's a song by my favorite band of all time - RUSH - The Enemy Within, that describes this really well.

The latest version of escalation mod for TA. I porc like there's no tomorrow and if you survive the initial rush things usually work out against the AI. It's a shame the ground unit pathfinding goes straight to hell after a while and they get clogged down into long unmoving lines. Airforce still works as supposed to.

Wasted my entire free morning on making Rome my bitch with Pyrrhus in Alea Jacta Est: Bith or Rome. Basically by deciding to say fuck off to Sicily I could focus on those pesky Romans instead of fighting both them and the Carthaginians. Taking on two superpowers felt a bit too ambitious, as should Pyrrhus have realised in reality. In the end I won by systematically diminishing Roman power with the powerfull Greek armies and by managing to fight on one front. Makes me wonder how it would've gone if the real Pyrrhus was as good a warrior as he was and a bit wiser as a king.
