What the fuck is going on at RPGdot?

Back when Rendelius was in charge it had a discerning standard for review content and scores.

Now you've got Kristophe giving friggin 'Sudeki' a score of 98 percent, and writing the kind of sacharine drivel that'd make even the most hardened PR monkey cringe. Not to mention the amount of non-rpg crud now filling up the newspage.

What's a little more troubling is the increasingly overt presence of Bible-wielders. Its not just Kristophe and Corwin - yesterday I made the sort of basic jest comment that wouldn't have caused any fuss whatsoever at the place a couple of years ago, and I find some Mod from Utah working up a Biblical rage on my ungodly ass. Witness:

http://www.rpgdot.com/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... fca7d081b6

Is it just me? Or have there been some changes afoot over there?

Edit: Looking back, perhaps I was being presumptious about that mod being a Fundy - knee-jerk from seeing his Utah location I guess. But still, I get this nagging feeling from that site nowadays...

They are just biased against Codexers. I'm pretty sure he would ignore such a jab if it was directed at some Oblivion-hater (or Codexer).
Anyways, why are you posting there in the first place?
I use it only as a news-source, cuz they have some insiders occasionally, and updating pretty often. For analytical material, i'd rather stick with ole' Codex or even RPGPlanet.com (and .ru).

But still, the graphics are impressive and I actually want to look at that game in action. It doesn't have anything to do with graphic-whoring, because i'm not yet willing to actually call it RPG and play it accordingly. It's the same as calling someone a graphic-whore for playing HL2 or Doom3.

You heathen.

Sweet, DS2 got a 9/10. I too thought it was next to perfect.

Sudeki is hot, man. I'd give her a 100%.

Nah, being from Utah, he's most likely Mormon, if religious at all.

Meaning, he's worse than a fundy. He's a fundy that spent his formative years riding bikes in the rain, spreading the Word o' Joseph during a time when most everyone else is popping their first cherry.

You're right, there's not much point in posting there, it's not a discussion site. I guess I'm a little disappointed at the editorial direction it has taken.

Oh, so you think Kristophe was really saying "'I'll give her 98 percent - of my giant Godly Cock"

Of course. It's only logical. Problem solved.

Meh. Perhaps I'm overreacting. That mod response was probably warranted - fair enough if they don't want the place to become another Codex. My comment there was a bit pointless and aggressive.

One can get a little too used to the freedom and particular culture over here.

BUT. Something has definitely changed over at the Dot.

Well, there's nothing wrong with Mormons as far as I'm concerned. I've never met one that was a bad person. They seem happy and they're required to do missionary work for a certain number of years. Sure, there's the whole "Here's what I believe and have a book." aspect to it, but they also dig irrigation ditches in South America while doing that. In the end, people can believe what they want to believe, but they still have crops. So, I find it hard to knock the Mormons as people.

The whole Joseph Smith thing is rather nutty, though.

As for the original post, I think this is the rule you violated:

  • Rules for posting
You may no post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-orientated or any other material that may violate any applicable laws. Doing so may lead to you being immediately and permanently banned (and your service provider being informed).

That's a funny rule. The first thing that funny is that forums are text based, so that would be "libelous" as opposed to "slanderous". Slander is spoken, libel is written. The second funny thing is the last nine words of the first sentence. It implies that you can't post the list of negatives due to legal reasons. The word "other" in there encompasses the reason for the list as to why it's bad.

So, either they're not a native speaker, or they're idiots. If Corwin wrote it, he was probably too busy thinking about having Cleve Blakemore's manhood deep inside him to write that rule clearly.

Kristophe just seems like a guy they cloned from RPGLand staff. I think that's the name of the site that used to give every single RPG released an A or a B score. I'd sooner trust someone who hated every game for good reasons than someone who liked every game while ignoring the problems with it - but that's just me.

It is a mystery! No, I agree though. I can't really put my finger on it, but i've hardly visited rpgdot at all in the last year as it's failed to grab my attention. It may have more to do with there not being any good RPGs lately though.

Ho hum.

Rend wrote the TOC (AFAIK) and Rend was always a carebear, so it was always his policy to err on the side of more moderation, by the way.

Sudeki doesn't deserve anything higher than a 70%. I don't know how a game like that gets 98%. Even if you were rating it based on the scale of action RPGs instead of pure RPGs, it'd still get a score lower than 70%. If you were rating it on the same scale as Final Fantasy and Jade Empire, it'd still get a 70%.

I can *understand* if Rend like to give bad games a 'decent' score, say 75%, which is what some websites gave it, but the average score for the game on mainstream websites was nothing less than 72% with GameSpy giving it a 60% and GameSpot a 65%. Most of the X-Box magazines panned it for being trash.

I've got no idea what that means, Twinfalls. Now run along and start another thread so you can get some more attention.

Rend has nothing to do with review scores, Exitium. I was simply pointing out that Twinfall was mistaken to think mod policies had changed. I haven't played Sudeki so I don't have an opinion on it...and I don't really care what you think.

It's amusing though that Twinfalls got a warning for a standard non-sexual term yet a guy who posted "You immature kids from the RPG Codex should just return from whence you came and stop spamming the RPG Dot forums with your idiocy, The rest of the internet doesn't want you" was ignored by the mods. I love hypocritical double-standards fucks.

Though honestly I'd think you'd care about a site you work at, seeing how giving 98% to a piss poor game like Sudeki makes you look like a bunch of brown nosers. I thought RPGDot was all about having standards?

If you think you infuriate a person by telling him you don't care what he thinks, despite the fact that he's only pointing it out for your best interests, you should just keep your responses to yourself without needing to act like an arrogant jackass in response to criticism.

Give me a break, VD - give the mods a chance to see that post and second, I think Twinfalls post was simply misunderstood.

@Exitium, you used to regularly make smart-ass comments about RPGDot in any thread you could, so I long ago learned to ignore your tripe. I'm not trying to infuriate you - I just don't care what you think.

Jeez, they're an uppity bunch, aren't they? Dhruin, it was a *joke*.

I liked the daft hypocrisy of the anonymous response - "look, he's asking people to spam us - here - at THIS address...."

Please. I don't recall any mods interfering when the angry mob was attacking the Codex and anyone associated with it in that AoD thread. Not that I care, of course. I prefer to handle things myself, but the hypocrisy is obvious.

I hope that mods will see those 3-month old quotes any day now:

RPGCodex has been one of the most vocal and idiotic "forces" on the RPG community for some time...
Ok, here's a reply to all 3 RPGCodex staff members who've been posting on this thread, but using the kind of language they can understand (RPGCodex style):

You are all retarded!

Its penis envy.

The RPG Codex is superior because its forum is largely without those "care bear" rules and without those moderators that so much enjoy to remind everyone that have THE POWER TO CENSOR any post.

In here we talk, in most forums we just post a acepteble reply.

As for news about RPGs there are tons of news sites, starting by the big Gamespot and Gamespy sites that get a lot of material, their forums suck and their editorials, interviews and reviews also suck but the information is there.

Damn right. That's why it's the only all-RPG forum (aside from Russian) that I actively post on.
