Once you forget there's any story in Fallout 4, it's a pretty good game. Exploration seems to be rewarding, the graphics are pretty pleasant to the eyes. Gunplay and audio are pretty alright, too. If you treat it as an open world first person looter shooter it will be a very fun experience.
Fallout New Vegas is a "proper" RPG with skillchecks, consequences to choices and a lot of dialog, so it depends on what you're looking for.

Yea, but the problem is the story. I'm not playing 4 to just romp around Post-Apoc boston. I'm playing 4 for a good story, with the ability to fuck off and just muck about if I want. Yes, it's a upgrade mechanically in places compared to 4, but once the Institute and BoS and Railroad and Minutemen come bakc into view, it sours.

Putting the "story" and "factions" aside, because they were obviously garbage, Fallout 4 was okay. It had a lot more to explore than NV, which was kind of empty but not as empty as Fallout 3. Base building was fun for a while but the ceiling on that fun wasn't high because build options were so limited. The gun mod system was pointless and made everything feel the same.

The divide between the parts of Fallout 4 that were professionally done and the parts that were just amateur is more obvious than in any previous Beth title. Some of the VAs were so bad its unbelievable that they got hired. Previous games had some problems with VAs, but the problem was never that the VA himself was just bad.

What do you mean, winking at audience? And cutesy? Where? Veronica?

Stuff like a street gang that pattern themselves on Elvis Pressley, a casino owner named "Mr. House", A sniper camped out in a tourist trap dinosaur-shaped tower that also sells dinosaur toys, Roman legionnaires roaming around, a protectron that can become a town sheriff, and so on. Fallout 4 is shit, but it's just a harmless dudebro game. NV actively makes your ribs sore with how much Obsidian is nudging them.

Weapons :

FNV : A lot of iconic guns. Anti Materiel Rifle. Brush gun and a lot of ammo variety.

Shotguns in FNV
  • Buckshot
  • Magnum
  • Flechette
  • Pulse
  • Coinshot
  • Slugs
  • Dragon breath
  • (...)
  • Available in 12 and 20 gauge
Shotguns in FL 4
  • Only one type of ammo
Armor :
  • FNV : Flat armor reduction
  • FL 4 : Percentage DR which means that a 9mm SMG is more effective than a .308 rifle vs heavily armored enemies(which makes no sense)
Dialog
  • FNV : A lot of dialog options. You can even convince the final boss to retreat
  • FL 4 : Dialog wheel.
Immersion mechanics
  • FNV with hardcore more where ammo weights, you don't regain health by sleeping and so on
  • FL4 - everything even radiation is dumbed down

The moment they switched from isometric to first person they killed the atmosphere

Doesnt matter if its NV or FO4

The eerie desolate atmosphere (and soundtrack) was replaced by cowboy yabadabadoo shit and explosions

Even Tactics had a soul of Fallout, anything that came after doesnt

Tactics does not have "a soul of Fallout", it feels like a weird knockoff, which it is.
