Why did Bethesda acquire the Fallout license?

Because The Tim Cain is dead.

Sadly this does seem to be their official answer. And of course because they "liked" it, even though most of the devs had never played it, and they immediately removed everything that was good about the game. I get the impression they only played it after they bought the rights to it and said "What is this shit? This fucking sucks. Lets do something different. Something nice and shiny and less depressing for our 12 year old target market"

Because its a very original and unique setting they couldnt make themselves?

And the setting is all they bought, really.
Plus the hype of being one of the golden RPGs ever made etc, etc... which will give Bethesda some kind of coveted @hard core@ (vomits) credibility.

Because Julian Lefay only ever got round to making one decent setting for them to butcher.

Troika's unfinished project just smells of fallout in every existent pixel. and it smells good.
It even has a spear and that's more than Fallout 3, or Oblivion for that matter, will ever have.

For centuries RPGcodex has asked the question - What defines a game as an RPG?
Now we have an answer. Spears.
