I did not try the latest version of EasyTutu yet but I definitely plan to once I'm done with Anachronox. I basically copied what was on the website and it certainly sounds good.

As for the spells, it seems they did not have the right visual effect, were placed in the wrong school or simply did not work as intended but it seems fixed in the last EasyTutu release.

I did a little reading on the Spellhold and PPG forums, and it sounds like the new EasyTuTu is definitely the way to go. Also the Hard Times mod sound really interesting, his ideas on item balance might actually make the game a bit more difficult.

Dammit, now I have this overwhelming feeling to play BG1 now.

Unlike other bits of BG2, I think Ascension actually reacts intelligently to the difficulty slider - eg. Melissan casts fewer spells etc on easy, and summons a shitload of crazy ass overpowered demons on Insane. If it is still too much, CTRL-Y the Five to death.

You could also get redemption and have Irenicus in your party to make things easier.

I'm finally giving TuTu a run through and playing with the NPC Banter Pack and the Hard Times Mod and so far, they are excellent. I am especially loving the Hard Times mod in that all those magic items just laying around in the world... well guess what, they are no longer there. The only way to find them is off of random encounters. Very nice.

I played BG: Trilogy and must agree that I also had problems with 3 areas loading in the second half you mentioned, but I think it was because I had another mod installed that allowed me to see those areas before it was intended for the game originally.

they were available to me as well from the beginning (I never tried to visit them though), but I had only clean BG:T installed so this is Trilogy's bug. it also were known to another people on BG:T's forum as well at the time - because I got a very quick and specific response on how to bypass it.

also Ascension adds more roleplaying things to ToB, specifically to your party members and to the ending of the game. I've found ToB to be much more enjoyable with it installed.

Good news, definitely installing that after Anachronox.

Sorry to dredge this thread up again, but I'm after some BG modding advice.

After all these years, I have finally decided to play the whole BG series from start to finish for the first time. Now I know most would suggest for a fist time playthrough, play it vanilla. However, I'm pretty sure with all the other games on my 'to-play' list, I'm probably only going to have time to play the series through once, so I'm after the best possible BG experience I can have from the get-go.

Skyway mentioned that the Trilogy mod was shit and full of bugs but his post was a while ago, is that still the case? I really love the idea of turning the series into one massive seamless game, but if it's crap, I'll go with EasyTutu.

I have a pretty good idea of the other mods I'd like to install from this and other threads, but it really depends on wether I start with BGT or Tutu, but any other advice would be appreciated.

:D

Can someone link me to the mod that makes the game turn-based? Thanks.

I've been thinking about picking up the BG compilation from www.play.com for £9.99, and replaying the series again.

Are there any recommended 3rd-party updates/addons I should apply to the game? What would the 'Codex use?

I don't want to use anything which would break the game...

I bought the same package from the same site. Ignore what ixg said, the compilation comes with all the BG games with nothing cut out.

I installed BGT with no problems, but I quit after I got to the Underdark - the game was just too boring. Combat in the BG games is really awful.

Is there something wrong with the gibberlings3 bg2 fixpack I should know about?

AFAIK, it superceded the baldurdash fixpack a long time ago.

Nothing i am aware of. I am replaying BG2 with G3 fixpack + SCSII + G3 tweak pack, no problems so far. I skipped the BETA fixes in the fixpack to be on the safe side, they are very minor anyway afaik.

I've been playing the game with BG2 Fixpack. Well... it does fix bugs.

My BG Trilogy install works fine, but there are 2 bugs.
First the transition between BG1 and BG2 never worked. There is supposed to be a cutscene and then BG2 starts etc. but it never functioned , so i had to save the character and start BG2 normally and then import this character.
Second was the aforementioned area crashes with small teeth pass or whatever the name was, i found a solution that worked for me: don't enter the area from Atkatla or somewhere, instead go back to the Underdark exit and then enter the area from there, this worked for me.

Don't play large mods. And anything else that's old. Almost all of them were done in a really amauterish manner, breaking balance and immersion beyond belief.
The only exception I can think about is Neverending Journey, which does have a good story. Still, it's terribly unbalanced and bugged - during my only playthrough I've hunted down about 20 bugs, varying from minor annoyances to critical crashers and gamebreakers. Still is well worth trying, especially if one has exhausted other options.

G3's fixpack is also much better than Baldurdash, that's true.

Skyway mentioned that the Trilogy mod was shit and full of bugs but his post was a while ago, is that still the case? I really love the idea of turning the series into one massive seamless game, but if it's crap, I'll go with EasyTutu.
BGT's maintainer did attend the infamous 'Beregost crash' a while ago, though I don't remember the details.

There're some very stubborn rebellious guys at Black Wyrm Lair modding community who don't like Fixpack for some reasons. Fortunately, they don't lead the IE modding, so that's okay.

I recommend the following for playing Baldur's Gate:

EasyTuTu and MOD Links: http://www.usoutpost31.com/easytutu/

The mods for this I personally liked were:

EasyTutu Spawn Randomizer
Hard Times (All that PH4T L3WT everywhere is now GONE)
Tutufix
BG1NPC Project
BG1 Unfinished Business: linky

I cannot recommend the Hard Times mod enough. All that fucking ridiculous overpowered magic items just laying around was stupid. Now there really IS an iron crisis as well (until you solve it).
