You must have played a different Jade Empire than I did.

Fallout took me 3 wks to finish originally but then i didn't know what i was doing and was basically exploring the game world and reloading when i didn't like how some decisions i made turned out.
I assume for Jade Empire a similar strategy and still ONLY 13hrs and change?

I'd rather play Terra Nova - if only I can find that site that hosts the .iso along with Ultima Underworld 1&2 again.
I believe I have an original Terra Nova CD somewhere in my collection. Assuming you are interested I might be able to create an ISO for it.

Oh, don't worry, I can just find one on Rapidshare, but it'd be great if I could find that link again so I can make it easier for others to experience that great game. It was called "Freya's Looking Glass Archive" or something like that and had Terra Nova, Ultima Underworld 1&2 and a few other LG games.

I don't have the actual CD, but I do have a rared version of the contents of said CD. I got it from a torrent on Pirate Bay awhile back that is still active. Simply search for:

"Abandonware almost 3000" (without the quotes)

That'll bring it up. The rar file for it is 54 megs. Hope that helps :) I can't verify the authenticity though as even though I once owned the physical game and have downloaded it, I've never actually played it.

P.S. The underworld games are also within this particular archive.

"I didn't mean only dialogues. diplomacy, multiple choices and results of quests, combat/stealth ways, a possibility to create a truly unique character - anything you like. FO is easily suitable for at least 3 walkthroughs the way you want them."

And, say FO is 10 hours long, that's 30 hours. And, JE, and ME are good for at least 2 playthroughs. At least.

"but the combat there is far less repetitive and gives more freedom than in JE and ME where you just rush your enemies."

Rushing is for losers. I usually took my time even in combat. Play smart. And, cosndeiring how limited the number of enemy types are in Fo; the combat isn't exactly non repetive (it was real fun though).

Stop lying, and making shit up.

what will be the point in completing ME the second time if you will have to complete it the same way? you will fight the same fights that will be in the same places, complete the same quests with the same outcomes (or different very local outcomes that don't affect anything). and ride the same mako in the missions where it is a must.
the only difference is deciding which one from two of your companions will die which will have only 1 consequence for Shep - not having sex if he/she will choose non-romancable one. such a big consequence.
oh and choosing whether the council will die or not which also has no consequence. and I simply can reload my latest save to do that, instead of completing the whole game.

sorry Volly, but after lvl ~25 Shep became a superman, the destroyer of worlds - so I didn't see a point of not rushing to the end of yet another boring fight in ME (hide behind crates - shoot - hide behind crates - shoot). at least as you've pointed out FO's combat was fun. and FO had much more types of enemies than ME, where those are either geth (which don't become any more powerful throughout the game) or humans (not counting bosses of course).
in JE it was even more horrible btw. - take a horse demon form + focus - and the fight is won. the only good(?) thing about JE was the black and white diversity in quest outcomes. ME often doesn't give you even that. JE is only slightly more longer than FO btw.

Stop lying, and making shit up.
hmm you even agreed with some points there, so what was the point in this token phrase?

meh if you have any twitch skills mass effect flies by. just finished it in a couple minutes over ten hours my first time on veteran difficulty as a renegade close quarters specialist. i think part of the reason is you dont have to search bodies for loot or anything you just collect it, which was sort of convenient, actually. also i didnt bother with the biotics, except with the marksman abilities. in hindsight, probably a soldier wouldve been the best for me since i couldve used all the weapons and ignored biotics alltogether. i always kept the tentacle haired chick around to toss people into the air for me to fillet with my shottie. good times. wish alyx would do that in hl3 or w/e.

i REALLY liked the fact that i could mostly ignore my party members and even get a couple of them killed. most of the time they shut up and followed me around and supported me in combat. didnt dig too much into their past, because it seemed like the typical biowarian fare and id already been through that.

didnt do all the side quests once i discovered how copy paste they were (lunar mission anyone? do the same thing in 3 different dungeons with the same layout and enemies? next time ill pass), but i took my time exploring areas and driving around deserted planets investigating missing soldiers and whatnot.

Overall I found myself pretty entertained. I was worried it would be very similar to a lot of previous bioware games, which im a bit tired of, but since this was a new ip in space it helped a lot, and some of the environments were quite pretty. i liked the paragon/renegade dealio, but other than role playing one of the two there didnt appear to be to much consequence or recognition. there was some, but not as much as i mightve liked.

the shooting elements were decent, but the cover system was worthless, the overheating mechanic stupid, the infinite ammo is always a bad idea, as is never having to reload. still, it was awesome to level up my pistol skill and watch it turn into some sort of machine gun, mowing down enemies in just a few hits usually.

also, there was a bug for me where my guns would get perma over heated and id be screwed without anything to shoot with. only way to fix was to reload an old save. there were a large number of audio stuttering bugs, but only one show stopper when an audio bug hit a loading screen. it ran pretty decently on my trusty socket 939 nforce 4 (which also got me through crysis...) setup @ 1280x1024 on maxed settings but with dynamic shadows off, because the shadows like to turn into little pixels and look terrible. everything else looked top notch though thanks to the unreal 3 engine.

personally, i think i like this better than jade empire and kotor for sure, just a little more than nwn, but not more than bg2. ME was a short but entertaining ride, but BG2 took me a whole summer to mash through (i include the exp pack in this).

I wouldn't say FO is shorter than JE or ME. Fallout can be finished quickly, but it also has tons of stuff to see, text to read, NPCs to talk to, random encounters to find. I like to squeeze avery little bit out of the game and newer games like ME and JE don't really allow it, as they are built around a linear main quest + a small number of obvious and simple sidequests. Even TWitcher is better in that department because it has some things you have to look for (some books to read, wenchcards, quests that are only available from NPCs that appear for a short time every day etc.).

Mind you, I *liked* JE for what it was, but it just *felt* short and simple.

FO is definitely shorted than ME, and JE.

more than f ew of these quests are far from obbvious. Heck, you can't evena ccess all quests in these games your first playthrough. Potentially, all quests are avilable in FO first time through (though chances are you wouldn't ge them all).

And, both ME and JE (espicially ME) have lots to read.

From memory JE took me 30 hours - but I listened to every conversation and did every sidequest.

To be honest I probably wouldn't have kept playing if it was much longer than that...it's all very well having a long game but it has to sustain your interest for the entire period. I thought the Witcher dragged a bit and that was 80 hours+. I don't think the core gameplay of JE would have sustained it for much longer than the period I played - the combat was awful and the character development was virtually non-existent, although I did enjoy the story quite a bit.

JE isn't short. OK, it is, but it didn't feel like it. It would be a pain if it were longer. There's not much to do in JE: walk, talk and fight. And neither of them are particularly compelling. If you're going to make a longer game then you need to add more gameplay elements, to mix it up a bit, break repetition. Iirc my last save was at about 17 hours and I did pretty much everything in terms of quests. There's no way JE is 20+ hours.

You have to give credit here to Obsidian and NWN 2 OC. The Trial and the fortress management were quite compelling and a nice change. That's the problem with Biowarian games: you can't really do big things.

I finished mass effect in 11 hours, I did a couple of the side planet quests because they sucked and they were boring, but i also listened to a shitload of information about all the races and the galaxy lore in my journal, there is ALOT to read about in mass effect.

So are games really getting awfully short these days? Someone said Mass Effect was short - how short is short? How much playtime can you expect from it? How about Mask of the Betrayer or NWN 2 OC? How long are these? I'd really like to play a long game again for a change. And I don't mean a jRPG (those seem to take at least 40 hours each, but the gameplay isn't my cup of tea most of the time).
motb can be finished in 2 hours (maybe less) if you start with a powerful character, avoid side quests and read as little as possible (but in that game, side quests were the charm of it)

jrpgs might reach 40 hours (i played ffvii for 100) but 50% are random battle grinding, and a big chunk of the rest are non playable cutscenes (or the current fad : the dragon's lair like cutscenes)

console games tend to be shorter than pc games and since most new pc games are console ports ... for example, i spent the last month playing and replaying the splinter cell series:

the first one is pretty long (didnt keep track of the time, but lasted a week of playing several hours a day)

the second one i couldnt get to run (stupid copy protection) but i remember it being much shorter than the first game

sc3 chaos theory is even shorter (maybe around 10 hours)

and then i finished with sc4 double agent, the freaking thing is 6 missions long (with a length padding "spy your coworkers" mission between them that is forced to last 30-40 mins each of the 4 repeats of the same level by a "you have to be here in 40 mins" objective, im not kidding), the "real" missions take between 10 and 30 minutes each (if you sneak though them, if you shoot though them they take 5 minutes), the whole game takes at most 5 hours taking the long road (i case anyone is going to say the game is supposed to be replayed by taking different sides, there is only one meaningful choice in the whole game that only changes a short part of the ending)

at least some console games, like Resident evil 4 (20hours main game + 5 hours of the main game from a different point of view) offer some added content after finishing it for replaying (i hate that the max difficulty is locked up at first and that you CANT use the new guns in new game if you choose a different difficulty than the first time tho)

And, P.S. JE is an Action RPG... yet... has more role-playing than most so called full fledge RPGs.

I wonder what you consider role-playing (pretending you are a cannibal by sitting next to corpses doesn't count) and more than what "full fledge RPGs" has Jade Expire so much of it because I don't remember any. It all comes down to being good or bad. That's it. Absolutely nothing else.

And, yeah, instead of your typical boring "ZOMG, YUO LIE!!1" maybe you could come with examples...not that you could since there are no examples, but I'd love to see you try.
