Base Management is the strategy layer behind all the gun-toting and action, it is your base of operations, where you manage resources and control which missions to engage in.
It functions as a hub between missions and provides you with a map over the game world, it is also where you recruit, customize and take care of your mercenaries.
The base is also used to manage the training of your mercenaries, construction and weapon research/manufacturing.

So I reckon the strategic layer will be totally revamped.
Researching weapons and upgrades? Jesus fuck, is it that hard to make a 1:1 copy of the gameplay features these days?

CrashOberbreit since they refuse bitComposer's funding and are going kickstarter, do you have any idea of the scope of their budget? 350k is horribly low for a new JA, so they definetly have private investors as well, right?

Well. The thing that they ask for so "little" is that they already have the base technology available. So far they built a bigger game each time, using their old tech and upgrading it (Space Hulk for example is based on Frontline Tactics but with lots more stuff in there. JA then will prbly based on the tech of Space Hulk and so on). However, on the KS page they also make clear that 350k is for the base game and that via more of course more features will be included.

It should have make the news of the Codex and even have a thread in the CRPG forum
Ok JA is way more about strategy than rpg but still.
I check the Codex quite often but only learned about this kicstarter right now (i don't check this part of the Codex).
Quite shocked about that, JA 2 was in the top 15 cRPG Codex list after all.
Also research/manufacturing for a JA games seems wrong to me.

I don't think the scope of this game in particular is too big, especially with CashOberbreit mentioning JA 3 potentially in the works if this company does a good job with the franchise. My best guess is that bitcomposer wants to test the waters with how popular the franchise still is and how good a job that indie company can pull with more limited crowd funding.

Though tbh 350k in terms of funding, especially if it has depth both to tactical battles and dialogue, sounds like a few missions' worth of game, so i could be wrong.

Uhm. We tested the franchise before actually. So we pretty much know what to expect if we go for a full JA3. But currently we are full with other projects, JA3 somewhere on the horizon right now. It will come, some day. But first of all this needs quite some cash, plus some experienced people on our side - but those people, including me, are quite busy with other things (=projects). Of course experiences people on dev-side as well.

Ah well, if someone from the codex-staff wants to get the FC guys for an interview, just write me a pm and I'll hand out the email-address, as promised before. Gotta work. Actually came to the codex today to post in the Conquistador thread, not to hang out here all day

and now? So much work on my desk -.-

So this is more like JA: Deadly Games than JA1 or JA2? Since there's a base, and you select missions. I guess that's an easier game to make, but meh.

From the kickstarter comments:
Q: Will Ivan Dolvich and Fidel make their appearance in the new game? I loved those 2 characters in JA 1

A: It depends one two things.
1: We will be making some poll to find out which mercenaries people want to see the most
2: Every original Mercenary that is introduced will have a story to tell, which may require additional art assets and influence game play, so it's also up to the budget.

But of course we would like to have them in as well.
Ivan is a bad ass Russian and Fidel's busy, that's all the story I need. I don't know which game these guys played but it sure as hell wasn't Jagged Alliance.

Summing up, this will be an on-rails variant of JA, similar to Deadly Games but likely without the random aspects (in favor of STORY), and a small number of mercenaries due to budget constraints. But don't worry, these guys helped make CRYSIS.

Also, a few other gems from their kickstarter comment page:
Base management at its core will function as a central hub yes, Its where you have access to all the functions that you'd normally have in just a simple menu. You will start missions in the same way that you did in JA2, by selecting on the map and directing your squads to mission locations. Its not a free roaming world per se, but each portion of the map is a level in the game.
if you go to www.jaggedallianceflashback.com you can check out our paypal options.
Just like in JA2!

Basically we mean weapon modding...adding laser sights, scope ect. We're aiming for realistic weapons - For [weapon] names, we're trying to take a humorous approach.
:hearnoevil: The humor is supposed to go into the description, not the name! (Oh who am I kidding, there'll be no text descriptions.)

:bro: Yea it's all we need to know about their backstory, simple but very effective.
No metaphysical or complicated shit.
Also Razor just like his job :)

For now the Kickstarter seems very slow to me, if doesn't get at least 100K$ in the first four or five days is game over.

You need to be talented to make a good game, especially a good JA game. Shitcomposter contracted another shitty indies with crap track record.

Insert clever insult here
Too bad that when this goes down in flames, BitComposer will think it's because the name is toxic and not because of incompetence. Space Hulk is extremely simple compared to Jagged Alliance, so Full Control doesn't get any benefit of doubt due to that and their KS isn't nowhere near convincing enough. Fictional, humorous gun names? In a series infamous for its gunporn? Bitch, please.

Our mission is to deliver new strategy games for the "soccer dad" group.
By that we mean old school gamers that now have family, jobs, children. Soccer dads would love to play some more hardcore themed games but do not have 200 hours console time to play the latest AAA RPG. But they do have 10-15 minutes here and there on different devices.
The choices given to "soccer dads" these days are limited. And that is the gap we are trying to fill with our games.
Why do we care about this player group? Because we are soccer dads ourselves!

Soccer daddies. Hmm... Some codexers are known as sugar daddies, but I haven't heard any JA fan calling himself a soccer dad.

"Soccer dads" eh? You mean the poor sobs that spend most of their time working or tanding their spawn, leaving them with little time to play a fairly complex strategy game?:greatjob:

This is doomed to fail. To bad as someone said, people will think nobody wants a PROPER JA2 sequel... :(
