It's an action game that gives you a Sniper rifle and auto health regen. They could have made something really great out of that concept, but Rebellion gonna Rebellion.

Yeah they better have some better level design than the shitty claustrophobic corridor level of the demo. And enemies conveniently appear only after you've gone past a certain point, pfeh. Ah well, shooting balls off in slow-motion is fun for 10 minutes.

Demo was definitely finalised before the main game was finished so tweaking continued afterwards. The level is also the first (after the tutorial) so tried to keep it relatively straightforward as an introduction [...]

The first game has pretty open level design, it would make no sense to turn the sequel into a corridor shooter.

Take a look at this mission for a better example:

And he also said that many levels can be completed by stealth (but not all, as your goal is to assassinate people).

Ok so I played the demo because I had some kind of misguided belief this would be an interesting experiment. I only played 1 map and I assume that's all the demo has. Let's start with the bad:

-linear fucking map, no Thief style "choose your own approach" here. You see a corridor, you go into it kill everyone and you emerge to the next one.
-checkpoints in between said corridors
-life regen
-cover and chest high walls everywhere. Oh but there's a reason why, the whole town is bombed to shreds, only the chest high walls remain.
-you are fucking Rambo. Your SMGs have low ammo so the game boils down to sniping everyone behind some invincible cover.
-horrible AI. you fire 1 bullet, everyone in the corridor knows exactly where you are and they fire at you. There's no stealth here, you try to run to another window they still see you. Instead of close range cover shooting it's just long ranged cover shooting. Don't think for a second you're some stealthy sniper.
-KILLCAM ON 80% OF KILLS. I haven't found a way to disable it.
-fucking interface that's nothing but a console port. They even have "vibration" greyed out. Stupid confirm buttons everywhere and just overall console feel. Why, why is it so hard to make a PC interface? A console interface just because it feels so off makes a game 50% worse. It's like the developers have never played a PC game.
-fucking "press e to open", "press q to cover" every -fucking- where. There's no way to disable it it seems. My immersion, why are you raping it, god why, it's already dead.
-uncentered 3rd person view. Is this some gritty cinematic shot? Because I hate it, I want to personally shoot any game designer that forces on me uncentered perspective.
-objective markers everywhere that can't be disabled.
-"stop breathing" feature that may sound hardcore but actually is nothing but some bullet time. It then takes forever to recharge.

Now for the good:

-bullet trajectory that's changed by distance and wind direction. Not that it matters too much since you're not here to make the perfect shot, but to empty your clip as fast as you can in the enemy squad.
-a bunch of aim assists and shit.
-all those are customizable with the difficulty rating.
-they released a demo. Isn't that a million times worse than pining if the trailer looks good or bad? Nothing like a demo to instantly tell if you'll enjoy a game or not.

This game deserves to burn in the deepest circle of hell. It actually felt in many ways like Deus Ex: Human Revolution in that you had objective markers, cover, button tutorials everywhere, tagging, ballistic trajectory, last position marker, corpse searching except every single one of those things is optional in DXHR. I felt like playing a horrible popamole, WW2, streamlined, inferior, consolized version of a sniper run in DX:HR. I hope the developers and publishers of Sniper Elite 2 are proud of themselves. They made a game that's just about 95% the same as other games out there in the market. Why? is it because the developers have no actual talent? They just outsource everything? Everything feels so familiar and everything is just so decline. Overall it's just a colossal failure and shows the worst of today's game publishing industry.

Aim assist can be turned off, the demo level was according to the devs part of the first tutorial map, thus deliberately kept rather linear. Later it opens up.

Not that I try to defend that turd though. I think the game was mostly self-financed by Rebellion, and they're self-publishing the PC version. So I expected something a bit less mainstream. Rebellion just never had really good talent.

Seeing as how a demo is a hands-on presentation of your game to potential costumers... Why the fuck did they choose to showcase the tutorial? Are these people retarded?

You know, you actually can plug stuff like this to your PC :retarded:

Rebellion just never had really good talent.
They made this:

One of the best and innovative FPSes ever (and my favorite AvP game). AvP 3 wasn't that bad either. And i liked first SE. The rest is garbage 'though, i agree.

AVP2 wasn't made by them apparently but awesome multiplayer indeed. Wish there were more people playing it.

Innovative? Hardly.

But they got the frenzy feeling right, unlike AvP 2010.
Hardly? 3 different species with 3 completely different playstyles, amazing lighting system for it's time, great level design, innovative multiplayer... - and i know a lot about that, i played this game like crazy back in 2000, while others were playing that shitty Half Life deathmatch ;p One of the best MP experiences ever. And AvP 2 only copied this idea, and tweaked some mechanics (like healing for example). Oh, and the game was pretty damn hard. It was a huge breath of fresh air in times when you only had Quake wannabees and Half-Life to choose from.

I didn't like AvP 2 that much 'though. The first game had excellent atmosphere, while the second one, with its cartoony graphics and lulzy story, never really appealed to me that much (although i like Monolith's games in general).

I wonder what you expected from this? Realistic sniping? Making sure you're not detected by anybody and then sitting round for hours before making one shot and withdrawing whether it was successful or not?

You think such a game would sell for the plebs?

Sniper games are basically COD with a rifle as your primary weapon rather than a machine gun.

Then there's the crude bullet cam gimmick that is really quite unnecessary and more than a bit grotty; pornographic even. I'm hardly squeamish but there's a line out there and such 'realism' doesn't seem to add much, just makes gamers look more fucking creepy.
