I recall a game about the Cthulhu chick you were to romance. It was a VN though and there were other characters. I think it was the daughter of Cthulhu or sone shit and no lewd so meh.

So I'm tinkering with the combat system that all my future games are using, and I've decided to make a few changes.

Passive evasion is in. It just makes sense as a separate source of damage mitigation besides armor. Active evasion moves are still in, but now everybody has a passive chance to dodge, depending on their evasion stat. More bulky armors will also apply penalties to your evasion.

  • Armor = flat damage reduction, reliable but you'll take chip damage.
  • Evasion = %chance to dodge attacks entirely, not reliable but won't take chip damage and will avoid inflicted states

It's a classic way of handling things so why mess with it?

Additionally, almost all attacks has a chance of inflicting states (sword slash -> bleeding, that kind of stuff).

I'm playing around with how often I want these states to proc. Tried tying them to crits only, which is an elegant solution but occurred too infrequently.

Currently messing around with the following ideas, might keep both in the game for different weapons/attacks.

  • Regular %-based chance to inflict states. As long as you deal damage, there's a chance to apply the state on a target. Pretty standard.
  • Damage threshold guaranteed application. As long as you deal a certain amount of damage with the attack, the state will be applied. This is much easier to game as with attack mods and everything, you can reliably apply states rather than mess with RNG.

What about blocks, riposte, parry, counter, attack of opportunity, elevation advantage/disadvantage, cover, sniping, obscuring cover like fog/smoke/tree-bush lines etc?

Can a vamp neck backstab?

If a nigga backstabs is it a BLACKSTAB?

I personally liked how AoD handled weapon effects. It was simple but efficient and various weapons felt distinct. Where every weapon had a special effect and raising the skill value increased the chance. Top skill was something like 60% tops and to increase it more you needed crafter. So yeah, you could do bleed builds with swords which also stacked with effect from crit hits. Its all very robust.

How about making very strong armour reflecting blows result in temporary damage? Exanima does this. While in a fight you still have to act like you're losing health, but as long as you win the fight the temporary damage will regenerate. You could balance this out by making armour very expensive and introduce debuffs as your temporary damage sustained gets higher and higher.

It is probably too complex to implement for little gain, but I thought I will just throw this in.

You can toggle 3d characters instead.

I haven't heard of another rpg that lets you toggle artstyles, possibly due to the high amount of work needed.

I think I'm insane.

Pretty neat, it's basically what I'm doing. I like their western style more opposed to their JRPG style, which is just coomer art.

EQ2 had the same approach (western vs. anime) with their player character models, for what little that's worth, although they really just took the models they'd made for the game's release in eastern markets and added them into the western branch.

I'm just glad you're sticking with the idea.

Instead of bread, buy lentils, peas, red lentils, or sunflower seeds (same price) and sprout them and eat them liek that. The enzymes, vitamins, proteins... survival squared!

Yeah eat rice/roots like Pierre, stop wasting money on unnecessary things (alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, whores). Car is a luxury also. Use public transport!

A vampire eldermorph, very late game enemy. That's not sunlight.

And an early concept for Slayer Order field armor. They are not uniform, each slayer will have something unique (although this will not be reflected too much in the game).

Not too sure about this one. Cobbled it together from like 7 different armor sets.
