Tags: Dungeon LordsGames Domain posted a preview of Dungeon Lords, a fantasy action game that combines the character improvement of an RPG with fluid, arcade-based fighting controls, which means it's a shooter with stats.
Developer Heuristic Park is calling Dungeon Lords the "very first combat RPG,"(?) and cites its purpose is to create games that are fun to play, accessible, and more open to the casual gamer while still inviting to the hardcore
While the fighting is a prime feature, Dungeon Lords' real purpose is to let players experience a completely immersive adventure in a world full of details like swaying foliage, weather effects, and even accelerated diurnal cycles. Combat is all about "your" character; while it's possible to play what Heuristic calls a "sitting-back, Dungeon Siege-style," the message here is that you are the hero, and hands-on fighting is much more engrossing than simply managing your allies. So, while fighting is the main feature, you can skip it and just stare at the screen. Yep, that's what I call "open to the casual gamer".
