Bard's Tale enjoyable per TechConnect

There's a review of Bard's Tale over at TechConnect. The scores range from 7.5 on gameplay to 8 on presentation, value, and over all score. It seems to fault a lot of the dumbing down of the game but says the story and writing make up for that. See here:

It is in fact the storyline and the script that make this game, and lift it far enough above gameplay mediocrity to be noticed. The interactions between the criminally sex-obsessed Bard and the narrator are priceless, and the game's many stabs and slashes at just about everything from gameplay conventions to movie cliches are well worth the price of purchase by themselves. It will be hard at first to identify with such a shady character, who really is only interested in coins and cleavage, and who really does not hide a soft heart beneath his crusty exterior (only more crust, inside), but eventually half the fun will be in sitting back and seeing just how far he'll go next, in his quest for debauchery. Interactions with other characters are limited to choosing between a 'nice' and 'snarky' reply, though sometimes the 'nice' responses are bad enough to make one wonder what the other would have been... and to go back to try.
If the writing is that good, hopefully we'll get to see inXile talent in that area shine through in a more proper CRPG.
