The one nice thing about the tranny is that, like a magnet, its mere presence draws to itself and reveals all the worthless posters on the Codex.

    :neveraskedforthis:
Intentionally misspelling "brain" as "brian" is an old RPG Codex tradition.

I'd thought you would have known that by now.

The button's labeled "Bad Spelling", not "Unintentionally Bad Spelling". Thanks for the pro-tip, though. Next time I'll give you a dancing doughnut instead!

What do people named Brain think of this?
I think there's a case for Multiversal Solipsism.

Are you a seminarian or a student or something? Seems like you have a lot of this stuff fresh on your mind. I haven't read much in this sort of epistemological/ontological philosophy in a long time (12+ years I think). Most of what I read these days is either historical or spiritual (or both, in the case of hagiographies).
    PapaPetro
Na, just read old 2nd AD&D books and shit man. I think about metaphysics a lot.
STOP FUCKING ALERTING ME YOU FUCKING FUCK

You don't turn off alerts for post ratings? Either way, I think I'm at the part where you're banned now so it should slow down. : D

HAHAHAHA JUST WAIT UNTIL NEXT TOPIC! IT WILL BE MY MOST DEVIOUS PLAN YET.
A few light bulbs just went off, EOIII as the last DS EO is the last one to not feature difficulty settings. All others, and the remakes of I+II, feature hard modes. I was wondering how the hell you called EO combat low skill ceiling compared to other turn based games, that explains a lot.

Not every game can be Xcom, Jagged Alliance or Heroes of Might and Magic. EO has a good bit more depth than a decent number of tactical games, despite lack of a grid.

I agree that it is possible to invalidate the grid through poor design, but that doesn't change the principle that grids add loads more tactical complexity than gridless is capable of. Troubleshooter, Voidspire Tactics, Devil Survivor, etc. all have greater in-combat decision making thanks to the grid.

Yeah but those are literally the best tactical games (and some of the best overall) games on Earth. Just because it can't reach that bar I would still call blobber combat tactical.
When a game outperforms a good part of the tactical gaming genre without even a grid I think it is fair to call the combat tactical, even if it can't mess with the best.
