Luckily for everyone here on the codex, I have developed a method to get an accurate and objective measurement for the best modern game by collecting the projectile vomit that you expel after playing one over the course of 1 hour with a measuring cup and comparing the volume. The only problem I'm having is that I haven't been able to find a big enough cup.

Too many titles, I'm just gonna vote for Armored Core 6, Robocop, Star Ocean 2nd R, Rogue Trader and Colony Ship, and Octopath Traveler 2.

EDIT: List doesn't even have Armored Core 6 and Robocop, wtf man, these games have RPG branching paths and different endings, that's more than Skyrim.
Well I don't know anything about AC6 but based on what I've read from other people RoboCop: Rogue City technically counts as a RPG and it got rave reviews from those non-journalist people who have played it. So if what I heard is true, not including it makes this entire voting process fraudulant and unreliable. I'm afraid we're going to have to tear the whole thing down and start over from scratch but include RoboCop: Rogue City. It seems unfair that it's not included considering some of the other games on the list.

Strap Yourselves In Pathfinder: Wrath
d. Castaway of the Ardusta Sea (Steam/GOG): Stealth game with 2.5 different game styles. This is the 3rd series and the only one with VA, 1st series (Escape from Fortress Lugohm) gameplay is a bit rough on the edges and 2nd (Mage of the Olekta Desert) is like the 3rd.

I have played Mage of Olekta desert and while not perfect it encapsulates a lot of what makes an RPG and RPG, titles with pornographic content, apart from BG3 of course, is automatically dismissed though on this platform.

Even though developers like CDProject Red and Larian have stated that by including adult content you can have an adult story, which is true, they opt to decide to cater to a tiny minorities fantasy of what that means, creating storylines in this adult frame that more resembles Sunday morning cartoons. And people gobble that shit up.

Meanwhile, there are developers out there that use their adult oriented games to tell a good story instead, those then get ignored.

2023 was a good year for everything except RPG/JRPG. When your list includes such bottom of the barrel scrap as Loop8 and Crimson Tactics you know is time to restart civilization. Why did you even include Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty? Might as well include Armored Core 6, Ishin!, Robocop and Neptunia Sisters VS Sisters.

So many Legend of Heroes coming out constantly. Are they made in sweatshops in China? So many remakes and remasters... the only good 100% new stuff i played was World of Horror, Volcano Princess and Colony Ship. I strongly recomend all those 3. In the case of Volcano Princess you really need to like raising sims.

It has ending slides, choices and consequences.

I don't think there's any debate about it counting as a RPG by Codex standards. It's more a matter of nobody here played it and wrote it off as shovelware. 99.9% of the people here don't know that it's not shovelware garbage and they will never know.

What you saying man, 2023 is a good year for JRPG too, especially if you like 2D-HD kino, Octopath 2, Live a Live remake PC port, Wandering Sword, Star Ocean 2nd R...

The most popular thing can never be the best by virtue of catering to the lowest common denominator in its target market. There can be debates and conversations on what actually is the best, but the best selling/most popular is out of the discussion instantly.

By thinking it's possible, you showcase to the world you've never excelled at anything, never been an expert. Unfortunately, too many people are mediocre in every aspect of their life to be aware of this, including on this supposedly "hardcore" forum.
Nice Lilura impersonation, mate.

But you're reaching too hard for the cool factor. If a game is good, meaning it offers good gameplay, writing and respectable production values (taking into consideration the budget and the scale of the team), it's good, no matter the public reactions.

Ignoring it only because it's also praised by the masses is dumb. But I'm sure it's very appealing to contrarian edgelords, of which there are many in the Codex.

Hating popular things is fine if you have reasons for it. Reasons that you're willing to put down on the table, to open constructive conversations. Like bear sex and homosexuality are legit good reasons to hate BG3 because they involve moral implications. Just hating something because it's popular is good reason to git curb stomped, because you're showing narcissistic behavior, much like Bosank. He's trying to play a game of poker where he appears smarter than everybody else at the table, but everybody else sees a clown.

Which sums up to: it's rare to give 1 to a game because you wouldn't buy a game you decided it was shit thanks to gameplay videos. The only way to give 1/5 to a game is because you kickstarted it and when it was released, you found out it was shit.

Jagged Alliance: Flashback is a 0/5, not 1/5. Maybe if I ever got my money back I'd give them a 1.

Still butthurt about that...

Way to miss the entire point. Since when does good = "the best" do I have to give you an English lesson as well?

Shit, banal dialogue (of which Larian is a master), high production values but no soul, degeneracy, etc. Everything that caters to the lowest common denominator and that's why the most popular game always gets excluded from the convo.

Exact same shit as Witcher 3, but with more shills just because it has TB combat.

I don't give a fug if BG3 wins. It's probably inevitable. But RoboCop deserves a spot on the god damned poll.
Interesting post. How does tags work on steam? Are those user added or developer/publisher ones?

"Popular user-defined tags for this product," in your language might tell you something. You can scroll down and see what the developers/publisher listed the game as: "GENRE: ACTION, ADVENTURE."

Tbh, we could argue about how many devs don't have any idea what genre their game is and how wrong they are (see Disco) but you guys are not ready for this talk, so Robocop is not RPG, I guess.

Tell us your secrets perfect all-knowing God. What is really "the best"?
you're only allowed to make conversation with me when you've had at least 1 post about an RPG, an extremely low bar you've somehow failed to meet, nigger man

Don't take it personally, you're just another retard in the sea of Codex retards. Like, I don't know, there's so many now. Ga♥, for a fine example. But you never contribute anything gameplay-related either, never in tactical gaming, gazebo, or strategic games. You're strictly interested in political threads. The only effort you can provide is pushing the button below other people's posts. RPGCodex is full speed on being the place of retards wrong about everything. Another example on the wrong on everything part, check Templargr (a master in economics allegedly) takes on the market, it's hilarious. A crowd of people interested in culture war and absolutely not in RPGs. At some point, we should have another poll with only people with the majority of posts in gaming discussion

Why don't we change phylosophy and make a pool for the worst game of the year?
