Extremely important game culturally. Also absolutely hilarious in retrospect. It's sort of like the Rambo 4 of video games. Absurd gratuitous violence presented as a hard hitting portrait of reality, the harsh new media for a bolder and more honest age, and everyone nodded along like "yeah, this is amazing, so much brilliant stuff is being said". Imagine if Rambo 4 won best picture. That's what Spec Ops: The Line was to video games.
