Thanks for the feedback guys. Those are good arguments, and I'll revisit the disappearing mounts functionality.
Horses now stay active when dismounted during combat. Outside of combat they disappear because... well, I don't what to do with them otherwise.
Can't they just stand there indefinitely?
I suppose they could, but I don't see a really good reason for them to not just go away, except a little bit of the immersion factor. Right now, I have more pressing changes that need to be addressed.
I don't think you should prevent players from riding their horses (except in dungeons), to answer one of your previous messages. Maybe you could let the player decide, when dismounting, whether to leave the horse there or have it automatically sent to these pre-designated 'rest spots' on each map.

Additionally, If they choose to leave it there (perhaps for the convenience of having it readily available), you could introduce a check with custom percentages, so that after a certain amount of time, the horse might either run away or potentially be stolen, depending on the map. Maybe based on something like "Animal handling" or whatever.

It's a bit odd if your horse only appears in combat. I guess you've then got the problem of putting everyone on a horse.

I think something's been lost in translation. The only places players are prevented from riding horses is in dungeons. No plans to change that. I was just referring to leaving the horse active versus having it disappear until the player wants to start riding again.

Your second paragraph is some interesting ideas, but there's an opportunity cost there too. What am I not getting done because of that? I'll put it on my list of feature requests, but it's not going to be too close to the top :(

Do you plan on making a demo?
Yes. I have a half-formed thought to have a small kickstarter to pay for the rest of my art (primarily character/monster portraits) because it's costing me a small fortune and, if I do that, a good demo will be crucial for its success, given that I'm a totally unknown developer with no track record of success.

Even if I don't do a KS, there will still be a demo because things like steam next fest require it and that's a great marketing tool for small indies.

Horses can be used outside of combat to get around more quickly. They just will go to their little hidey place when you dismount outside of combat, as it works right now. In combat, they'll stay around because they add some tactical options for other characters to use.

Eh, I can only try to imagine the costs since I don't know anything about it. That idea just came to mind, and if it were there, it would be a really nice touch and would add immersion. Of course, everyone has to work within their budget and possibilities. I hope you can implement as many things as possible.

The foundations are there, and they seem excellent to me.

That sounds alright.

At first you had my curiosity, but now you have my erection.

I'll be keeping tabs on this one for sure.
