I'm sure most people who were looking forward to it are aware by now, but From Software's latest ARPG/dungeon crawler, Dark Souls III, is out on Steam now -- though this time it apparently has more broader spaces, if a review I read is to be believed.

Anyway, here's the official trailer and description:

DARK SOULS™ III continues to push the boundaries with the latest, ambitious chapter in the critically-acclaimed and genre-defining series.

As fires fade and the world falls into ruin, journey into a universe filled with more colossal enemies and environments. Players will be immersed into a world of epic atmosphere and darkness through faster gameplay and amplified combat intensity. Fans and newcomers alike will get lost in the game hallmark rewarding gameplay and immersive graphics.

Now only embers remain… Prepare yourself once more and Embrace The Darkness!

You can buy the game here.

So I bought Dark Souls 1 on steam 4 years ago. I should give it a try.

Also why is the News Jew not posting this news? Is there distention in the ranks? Is a coup in progress? What is happening!?

You need a gamepad for it. It won't even work with a KB + M out of the box. Also all prompts are based on the XBOX pad.

I'm enjoying it so far. It's a lot more like DS than DS II thankfully.

Also don't forget to set lighting to low, otherwise you'd be crashing.

I think bald character might not have this issue, but I'm not sure. Actually, why Japanese players didn't have this issue?

Yep, had crashing issues. But low lightning fixes it. What a strange bug though. Otherwise the game is fun. It feels more Dark Souls than Dark Souls II. But I don't think any game in the series will come close to the first one. This game (so far at least) is much more linear. You can explore and such, and the levels have some nice design to them. But there seems to be a certain order of bosses to go through.

I'm in the obligatory castle area for King Leoric or w/e his name is.
Anyway, it seems a bit more like Bloodborne in that you now are a rolling machine (assasin class anyway) and the stamina bar is a bit more generous for attacking and rolling unlike I and II.
The bonfire crash thing seems like a pretty easily found bug, but I guess in these modern times of 1gig+ day one patches they figured 'fuck it, release as is'.
Anyway, so far my impressions are that if you liked any of the other games you will like this.

So they managed to make kb/m even worse than it was in DS2? :slowclap:

probably still going to buy/play it, though... eventually

Are there seriously people that don't have a gamepad connected to their PC now? I am one grumpy motherfucker, but even I have one now.... :M

I refuse to let degenerate console components defile my PC /angrytroll

... actually, the real barrier is getting used to an analog stick controller when I literally haven't used anything except kb/m since the NES days. When I briefly tried out DS1 with an x360 controller borrowed from a friend, it was clunky and annoying, and I didn't feel like investing x hours just to git gud with a control scheme I don't use anywhere else. Still, DS1/2 were made playable with kb/m eventually (though some builds were at a big disadvantage), so I hope DS3 will be as well!

oh lol. In that case it's not very accurate, since you can play through DS1 with kb/m just fine as long as you use dsfix and dsmfix. Well, unless you want to play a speedy backstabber build, or rely a lot on plunge attacks.

Pretty sure there's a bot somewhere that spews out this stuff to save publishers money on interns.

RPG Codex: gamepads now required.

Seriously, I've never been able to get on with gamepads. Perhaps I don't have the coordination, or I'm secretly left-handed (not a euphemism) but I just find them unusable, even when they're the recommended input device.

I've got Dark Souls 1 but due to a combination of the aforementioned utter shit console port and my lack of popamole I've never played it for more than a few minutes.

My thoughts on this news item: WTF?

No. He was taliking about the DS1. KB + M is perfect in DS III, no sign of input lag from II that required AutoHotkey to play properly or suffer.

I played all three with KB + M and this is their best effort so far, I have no complains on the controls once you configure it to your taste.

If the idea of gamepads really upsets you, DS1 can be made quite playable with KBM using the right mods. If you can play Gothic, you should have no problem with Dark Souls. And if you like Gothic, you should definitely give the games a solid try.

I read they nerfed Sorcery. This makes me a sad panda.

Amazon still hasn't dispatched my copy, I'm getting the PS4 version this time around since my shitty PC can't run it apparently.

Very impressed with what I have seen so far. The game is well optimized and runs good even on lower rigs . They even included a mouse 2 menu and finally I can play it with my mouse and keyboard.

When I'm trying to convince my friends to play Gothic, I told them that it's "Dark Souls of RPGs" :M

I'm not trying to argue what's an RPG but it sure gets their attention
