The powers that be at Square Enix and Eidos Montreal decided to broadcast a special Deus Ex: Mankind Divided stream on Twitch today, a week ahead of E3. And boy, was it full of weird crap. They announced Deus Ex GO, a turn-based infiltration puzzle game for mobile devices. They announced Breach, an online competitive arcade mode for Mankind Divided with stylized graphics and optional microtransactions. They even announced that they were going to produce a real bionic hand in partnership with Razer (lolwut).

Thankfully, in addition to all of that nonsense, there was also a decent gameplay video of about 18 minutes long, which they uploaded to YouTube before the stream was even over. Narrated by game director Jean-Francois Dugas, it showcases the game's first hub, Prague, which Jensen must traverse to locate a certain augmentation specialist to repair his malfunctioning systems. Along the way, there's plenty of exploration, side quest opportunities, and a neighborhood full of violent gangsters to dispatch in a variety of ways.

Note the larger, more vertical level design. It's clear that Dishonored has been a major influence on this game. Actually, with that Viktor Antonov-esque Eastern European architecture, it almost looks like a Dishonored clone. Not the worst influence you could have, I guess. If you'd like to learn more about Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, a bunch of previews were posted on the Internet today concurrent with the stream, but I can't really be bothered to round them all up.

The mantling looks so janky for some reason. I wonder if enemies can even climb; the animation is so shitty I kinda wonder if they have never made a full body animation for it and it's a first-person-only pseudoanimation.

It also looks like fake gameplay, the camera movements don't look like either mouse or gamepad. Dunno if that means anything. Maybe it's gamepad with extremely low lookspeed and the guy was instructed to play like a robot.

I kinda doubt it. Their animation corpus* is weak. I think takedowns aren't just there because AWESOME, but also because in-world melee animation is too hard

*Yeah that's a reference

So, the explosion has diactivated all Jensen's augmentations.:shittydog:
He's like nameless hero from Gothic 2 who lost all his skills laying under ruins of evil god's temple.

It's such a cheap and silly ploy.

A BOMB. WHAT A SHAME. WHAT A ROTTEN WAY TO LOSE ALL AUGMENTATIONS.

I kinda like how in-universe Jensen's HUD can only display 4 active augmentations obviously thought for controllers for some reason. Looks quite good without the piss filter, but it's already apparent that the "SEGREGATION! RACISM!!" plotline is quite silly. Also, what's the canon ending from HR 1? Sariff survived, so either Jensen didn't blow up the entire building as I thought, he took a while to evacuate everyone, or he fucked up greatly and didn't accomplish anything.

Maybe Sarif ran outside before it blew and got away on a helicopter.

After nine years I would've hoped they learned how to pronounce deus... :)

Anyway, I wounder how this would compete with Cyberpunk 2077 and what lessons CD Project would learn from how this game would be received by the public.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution had the most boring augmentations ever. I doubt this game would be different.

I enjoyed the gameplay video, the world design is improved, the graphics look nice, a lot of oportunities for different approaches.

Will most likely buy it at release.

Glad they got a new voice actor for David Sarif. HR guy wasn't convincing, sounded like he was reading directly from the script.
